The photos depict the story. The hooks available in Amazon are around 250/-
Was saving Rs.40-100 the only consideration here? There are dozens of options on Amazon that I can see, and most of them, in moulded plastic, with hinged hooks or swivelling design, would be considered safer than the eye-poking contraption that was created by DIY.

This, for example, for Rs.149: https://www.amazon.in/Store2508%C2%A...s%2C369&sr=8-8.

Or these for Rs.238, that can be folded away like Thilak has: https://www.amazon.in/Thrifty-Shoppe...%2C369&sr=8-10.

Similar hooks that can be folded away sideways, for Rs.225: https://www.amazon.in/YUTIRITI-Headr...%2C369&sr=8-24.

I use something like this for many years now, though it cost me much less than the Rs.199 pricing on this link: https://www.amazon.in/AllExtreme-EXC...%2C369&sr=8-53. 2 hooks together, on a hinge, and can be pushed sideways when someone is sitting in the seat - I usually unhook it and store it in the door pocket.

Still want to poke the rear seat passenger in the eye? Save the time, tinkering and the risk of exposure to viruses, and spend Rs.79 more. Buy this for Rs.189. At least it has rubber caps on the sharp points, but i suspect those will fall off in a few days: https://www.amazon.in/Levon-Stainles...%2C369&sr=8-30.

Hahaa..... Feels like genuine anger.

@RGK, seriously this is a hazard. Remove it at once. I always keep one strong jute bag (jhola) for vegetables and fruits and two plastic bags, the likes you get when you purchase clothes from shops, they are thick and sturdy and are used for milk, frozen foods, meats and restaurant takeaways as they do not leak the juice and hence spoil the foot mat. I keep everything on floor to avoid any spillage, leakage on seat even by chance.

While this is hassle free as you say, the bags must be sealed in my opinion. Loose items in the bag will fall out in the event of a hard braking and it can roll forward in the foot well and could enter the driver footwell area potentially jamming pedals. I never put loose items in the passenger or rear foot wells. Everything must be secured properly during a long drive or should be shifted to the boot for safety.

My suggestion is - Plan your luggage as much as your trip. Secure things as much as possible in the passenger compartment. Even a humble pillow can sometimes fly out and cause distraction in the event of an emergency braking.

I have found that pliable wire/aluminum hangers can work best here. No sharp edges. No need to bend outwards.

Removed the hooks as safety is of paramount importance and no two ways about it.

Absolutely.

Not at all. Just an interest if something can be done on our own and a daily wage worker also get benefited. I was searching for a particular type (S type plastic one and easy to hang, which I had in my previous car), but could not find in Amazon/Flipkart.

Fixed this hook (a temporary one) sideways made of a sleeved cable.

Well, I can assure the fruits and veggies hang fresh even after long drives, which can't be said about the other locations inside the car.

Re: DIY with a Tinker: Storage hooks on the seat

I'd strongly recommend you get rid of that and order a set of these instead:

DIY with a Tinker: Storage hooks on the seat-seat-hnager.jpg

I've been using a version of these (mine has fabric belts with plastic hooks) for over two years and they work brilliantly. I even have two on the rear seat for holding items kept on the seat. You cannot feel them when sitting on that seat.

The primary advantage of these is that they hang freely and in case of a collision or any other incident, these will not hurt you. The solid hooks you've made will snag when people get in and out, in case of hard braking, it is very easy for someone's face to make contact. If you have kids in the backseat, etc. I know you could use them only while hanging, but eventually, you'll just leave it on there all the time because of the convenience. So instead, just get these safer ones and leave it permanently installed.

The version I've posted is available with all major online retailers. Even bigbasket stocks it.

Is leaving bags on the car floor really that much of an issue? If you don't trust the car floor mats/ carpets to be clean enough to put some polythene bags, then you should definitely get a detail done.

Ever since switching to the Ecosport from my swift, I stow my luggage/ grocery (however small) in the boot, either on the hook provided or the floor.

Hanging is overall a better option because things don't get thrown around. Especially if you're picking up food or something on the way. Bags kept on the floor will spill items which will then 100% roll into the most uncomfortable corner well, because Murphy. Plus, if you're in bangalore, the roads help a lot in making sure nothing stays in its place during the drive - even the passengers.

Also, sometimes we don't want the contents of the bag to spoil the car and not the other way around
