Re: DIY: Installing an Under-Seat Subwoofer in a Tata Nexon

Neatly executed and well documented.
Can I get a chance to audition this?

Hey man, I am planning an underseat sub install using the high level in. Any particular reason why you used a separate converter instead of using the built in one?

hey greenhorn, are you referring to the little translucent black box? If yes - I used that primarily for modularity and future ease of maintenance. The stock Harman unit doesn't have pre-outs for the amplifier as far as I know, and I was too lazy to find with the wiring if there were any unused wires coming out from it.

By using the converter - I basically have a proper RCA output for the stereo cable to run to the amplifier input signal. Didn't want to splice wires into the stock connector and run the same wires to the amplifier. Thats all.

Nice clean install.
Wanted to ask about this HI-Lo converter. I was looking at one of these for hooking up my active subwoofer with home amp. The amp lacks a sub-out. Currently I am using line-out from the amp but the problem is the master volume of the amp doesn't affects the line out level. Hence the sub woofer's sound is fixed w.r.t. the main speaker's volume which can be solved by using this converter. Please let me if this converter will work without hooking up with the 12V dc power supply. I believe the power input in this converter is for powering on the power amp- a feature which I will not require in my home setup.

Enjoy the set up!

Regards,
Saket

Hi Saket!
So in theory you are right - this is a passive-type LOC. Does not have active electronics / op-amp etc built-in, and works on stepping transformers with input signals from speaker wires. The +12VIN is indeed for driving the signal wire towards the amplifier "remote". The reason why I said "in theory" is - I haven't tried using it stand-alone like you will. So it should work for your purpose, I just don't have the experience to confirm that it will work for sure. Do drop a post here once you complete your setup. I look forward to that now. Cheers!

Thank you so much for your reply and observations. Your words give me the confidence to test it in my set up. Actually this TD-22 is quite a ‘famous’ product due to its reasonable cost and acceptable performance. However needed a real world user review whose glimpse I got in your posts.
I’ve just ordered it from Amazon and will surely put up my observations here once I integrate it in my system. Thanks again!

Regards,
Saket.

Hi!

So the TD-22 arrived yesterday but I was able to install it today only. Just for reminder, I’m not using it in a car but in my home stereo set up. And we were right; if you are looking for just converting speaker level signal to line level, then this unit doesn’t require 12V input. The unit seems to be performing fine during my short listening session.

Thanks!
