Ever since I got my safari purchased back in November 2007, the one thing i was really annoyed was the amount of noise in the cabin. These were from all sources like engine, tyre, wind, and AC blower noise. One fine day I decided to do this by myself.

It took them a while to deliver the product and during all these days of wait, i was just googling around to find ways to reduce all these noise.

Finally I did it on doors and speakers at the back. Below are few pics depicting the work done.

I am pretty satisfied with the result as the wind noise has almost gone. Cabin is much more silent than before. I still have some noisekill pads left, may be i will get them on engine firewall.

I have used a noise kill on doors, Some yogamat on the plastics to reduce gaps and white tape on window beading along with the sewing machine oil. Also to note I covered the hole of side mirror from inside. All this together has almost killed the noise. (ofcourse engine noise is still there).

Congrats! You can use some foam sheets to cover the firewall. Of course, you cant cover it fully till the dash is removed.

How does this actually work? Does this have some kind of tape behind so that it can be attached quickly? Could you post pictures of pads that have not been used as well?

Yes, this has an adhesive like rubber component on the other side followed by thin aluminum foil. It can easily be cut into desired size

Cool. Is it easy to remove the door pad? I wanted to try but afraid I might break locks/plastics. What was the cost involved?

And the way rear speaker are done is good.

And heard from LionX that fixing noisekill after taking off the dash makes a big difference.

Removing door pads is not that difficult. Just remember the screws you need to unscrew otherwise you might start removing the pads with one or more still intact. (I did the same mistake). I did broke a couple of locks and but there were enough locks to support the pads. Cost around 7k

Thanks, The rear speakers are done on a wooden plank with with oval shaped beading to support speakers.

I will try but the time and may be cost involved in removing dash and refixing them is holding me off. Also I am not too sure if TASS would be able to fix it like original (Number of wire locks and other might not be refixed once opened)

Great job! I am sure many safari owners will be pestering you on the results.

Tata can learn a thing or two from here. It really doesnt cost much to do this and it can make a big difference in the quality of their product.

But I don't think I would have the courage to rip open my brand new safari, specially when I am not sure if I can put it back together.stupid:

But do let us know by how much has the noise reduced.

BTW how heavy are these patches? Has it affected your mileage??

This is the driver door that doesnt house a handle. for all other doors, there is one more screw. There is a hole in the center. Remove the rubber bush and you will find a screw inside.

I'm impressed. Hope it works on my WagonR too.

Wondering, if this all what is required to reduce the noise? Then why aren't the Tata/Maruti/Mahindra engineers do it for us?

For other doors there are two more to support handle. and for all doors there one more just beneath the rubber. as shown in the updated pic

What is the use of using white tape on window beading along with the sewing machine oil?
