Update - Nothing worked, not sure if I need to start a new thread or continue posting here as I like to share my experience. Anyway, I'll leave that DerAlte sir to suggest, but to give you the outcome - the locking brake pad issue is solved, but the brakes are not even close to effective. The bleed screw could not be still opened & infact it got bent during the whole process. Thanks a ton to DerAlte & Thad sir, Sudarshan, Jaguar, sajjt & omishra.

Here's a story of a "locked thread".

My wife has mouth sores today, and among my medical collection I have some tincture of myrrh in a glass bottle with a plastic top. It has not been opened for years, added to which, myrrh is a gum. I have a very good kitchen bottle/jar opener, but could not make it yield at all.

I dripped some very hot water onto the plastic top. As soon as it was heated, the cap expanded (and possibly the gum seal softened too) and the top came off with just the fingers.

hi , need to buy a heat gun . cheap and atleast 6 months warranty preferred .
i dont know much about them as have never used them . something that can make around 200-400 degrees would be great .

anyone know some place in gurgaon or delhi to buy them ?
also it would be great if some fellow bhpian who has one can lend or rent one to me for a few days .that would save me some bucks .

@n aditya - what heat temperature does a hair dryer work , have no idea on them? cost of cheap hair dryers ? if i had one at home would have used them but i guess a heat gun will also cost roughly same .

any bhpian who has a heat gun ??

I have a Black & Decker Heat Gun which I bought in the UK in 1991. Still going strong. I have even soft soldered 1" copper pipes with it.

I think Bosch & Black and Decker are available in India. Ask the distributors/dealers.

It will not . Most of the them (at least the good ones ) , have auto cutoff , thermostat , after it reaches certain high temperature .

A hot air gun is hot air gun and not hot hair gun .:D

No hair dryer reaches 200-400 degrees. And they aren't cheaper either.

Look for the chinese made hot air gun which are quite cheaper in the market. I had bought a 1000 Watts (as written on it) with 2 level blower speed switch for 300 Rs. from SP road here in Bangalore. No warranty. Only testing.

Heats up pretty quckly and also blows very hot air, needs a lot of care workging with it. I could heat acrylic rods of 8mm and 10 mm nicely to bend to a circle. But if your usage is lot more, go for a branded one (mentioned on above posts) which also gets you warranty.

I have one too, that I used for stripping paint. It is very fierce, but I never dreamt that it would soft solder!

Only use, so far, here in India: I needed a rectangle of PVC, so I cut a piece of piping to the width, cut that along the length, heated it and flattened it.

shyamhegde thats exactly what i want . 300 rs is good price and my usage is also nothing too hi fi . i can pay upto 500 if they give maybe 4-6 months warranty .

delhi bhpians anyone know where to pick up a 300-500 rs heat gun from ? dont want to spend a few grand on bosch or the black decker brand.

Price is now increased. Bought one for a friend at Rs.340/- yesterday from Mark Telecom, SP Road, Bangalore. No warranty, only testing. Same model I have been using for 5 months and it is fine on a moderate usage.
