Indian Prime Minister might visit Tesla HQ (& Google)!

Later this month, Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India, is scheduled to make a trip to the US West Coast. He is expected to visit the state of California and try to attract investments and expertise for the Digital India programme as well as innovation projects and clean energy initiatives. He will meet top IT CEOs of Silicon Valley. The trip itinerary could see the inclusion of a visit to the headquarters of Tesla.

Tesla, which manufactures premium electric cars, could be persuaded to bring its technology to India. The company could manufacture affordable electric cars in the future. Tesla's latest inventions, Powerwall and Powerpack, are lithium-ion charged batteries with large storage capacities. These could be used to in off-grid power systems that could be introduced in India.

The Prime Minister is also likely to visit the Google headquarters. India-born Sundar Pichai, has been appointed as the next Chief Executive Officer of the company.

Perhaps he sees some benefits of this technology and reduce Excise / Custom on Electric Cars . Lower tax structure alone can act as a subsidy in India given high rates but only if our politicians can see little ahead Otherwise it will be too difficult to get this segment in mainstream .

The Powerwall and the battery packs may be more of interest to get electricity first. That market can be 100 times bigger than the car market in india.

The power-wall can do wonders for homes in Indian villages. This is exactly what is needed.

And Tesla have not introduced their cars here yet only because of the huge import duties. If the set up here, it gonna be wonderful. Fingers crossed on their supercharger network in India, since the electricity is still controlled, only time will tell.

On Saturday, September 26, the Prime Minister arrived at Tesla headquarters in San Jose, California where he was driven around in a battery-powered cart – a small sample of Tesla’s electric vehicle technology
Elon Musk puts it as,

We talked about electricity generation and the fact that arguably there’s a way to skip ahead with electricity generation in the same way as it happened with cell phones

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi Meets Elon Musk at Tesla Motors .

Quote:
Modi was, however, quite interested in Tesla’s battery technology and how it could help farmers. After all, missing one step to align to Western economies has happened before in the country’s history. It would appear switching straight to solar energy could be a way around connecting everybody to the grid power first

I was wondering what drove him to Tesla. It makes perfect sense to look for compact and durable storage technology!

Tesla's battery technology can help solar power more sustainable and more affordable with shorter time frame for returns on investments in terms of carbon credits as well as other tangible and non tangible benefits like in rural areas cleaner households, healthcare, better communication, reduction of grid dependence etc. Government is looking at that quite seriously.

This is quite interesting - though there is no mention of bringing Tesla cars to India.

Thank you volkman10.
Looks like you captured these on your phone.
