+1 From my side as well. My home also produces more electricity from solar than what we consume. But allowing excess power into the grid is where the problem actually lies. You cannot have a stable grid with a very high inflow of renewable energy (technical and economic reasons as well for this).Also, electricity is not the only form of energy used in the world. Almost 70% of energy consumption in industries is in the form of heat!Anyways, I will keep going off-topic here if the discussion continues! We should definitely have a new thread for this

To all the naysayers who were saying Roadster is just a distraction to production issues of Model 3, Tesla just started allowing orders from initial reservation holders. Till now, Model 3 was delivered to only Tesla employees, relatives of the employees. Now they opened to initial reservation holders who pre-ordered earliest.

The title is misleading. It's a production car only when it actually IS IN production.

Till then it's the worlds fastest concept car. (Or is it?)

Which MAY (or MAY NOT) make it to production.

Elon Musk truly is a visionary! He took out the boredom, the unpredictable range, the quirky styling, space issues?, the general stigma around electric cars! Sure, electric cars depend of fossil fuels indirectly (if one is not using other sources of renewable power to charge them) but they changed our perspective towards owning one, I think. Tesla's success with the P and X series should be the inspiration for other major players to bring out pure electric drivetrains and cater to the global market. I don't see much of that happening though other than the usual culprits like Nissan Leaf (even that, not in India).

Maybe this 'smackdown' of his on gasoline cars might work? As people have rightly mentioned earlier, the insane spec sheet of this roadster is definitely creating waves across the industry. I am sure manufacturers just cannot turn their faces away anymore. And what about the pricing, I mean Elon Musk has hit the nail on the head with a hammer so powerful, nobody can even think about matching it lest beating it! Hey if its fun to drive even for a 500km range and saves the environment while it does it, why not? Mr. Elon Musk, if its not a production version or not, thank you for showcasing a working concept that is creating some sleepless nights for global players!

In another first for Tesla, The Roadster is about to become the first car to space travel.

Elon Musk has tweeted picture of the very Roadster (Driver seat have a dummy wearing the new SpaceX space suit. ) mounted on a dome structure.

Tomorrow, Feb 6th 2018, SpaceX will be launching the new Falcon Heavy rocket from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida.
It will be a demo meant to test the rocket's capability of payload delivery. The selected payload will be Musk’s red Tesla Roadster.

Tesla shows its latest next-gen Roadster prototype to the Grand Basel car show this week.

it is not a working prototype but a design prototype, and it gives a better idea of the interior dimensions

But an unnamed source managed to get a look inside the white design prototype that Tesla bought to Grand Basel and shared a few pictures

Based on those images, it looks like the next-gen Tesla Roadster could indeed have enough space for a somewhat cramped backseat, which is certainly impressive for a supercar.

That is if you order the base version of the vehicle because Musk said that Tesla also plans to offer a “SpaceX package”, which will include cold air thrusters powered by a system of air pumps and tanks that would take up the space for the backseat.

Tesla Roadster makes debut in Switzerland.

The model on display is still a prototype but representative of the Roadster that will go into production in 2020. Rather than using an electrically retractable hardtop, buyers will have to remove the middle section of the roof by hand and stow it in a dedicated compartment within the car. Tesla is planning to officially reveal the cabin of the open-top supercar at a later date.

The roadster needs to be faster given the Plaid Plus Model S is <1.99 second to 60 and less than 9 seconds for a quarter mile! Thats faster than Chiron to both 60 and quarter mile and at 1/20th cost.
