Given this is Hyundai, they will be able to sell much more than the above numbers even at 25 lakhs ticket price, given that this is practically the first real EV in India (Reva and e20 dont qualify with the range they have).
Hope they price it well within 20 Lakhs on road, (with some help from the Government). This is the real deal EV for me, and would like it in my consideration set.

Hyundai will launch its first all-electric model in India, the Kona Electric, on July 9, 2019. Revealed in February last year, the Kona EV looks more or less identical to the standard Kona, though with the noticeable lack of a grille, along with alloy wheels unique to the model.
We had first reported in March last year that Hyundai had plans to bring its electric SUV to India, along with its plans to locally assemble to keep prices in check. The EV was also spotted testing on Indian roads later in the year.
In international markets, the Kona EV is available with two options – a 39kW battery pack with about 312km claimed range and a 64kW unit with a 482km range on a single charge. For India, Hyundai is expected to bring the 39kW model, which makes the equivalent of 136hp and 395Nm of peak torque, and has a claimed 0-100kph time of 9.7sec and a top speed of 155kph.
The lithium-ion battery pack can be charged to 80 percent capacity in as little as 54min using a 100kW DC fast charger, or 6hr 10min from a standard AC source.

First real full size EV to be assembled and sold in India. It is possible that in the next 3 years several models get launched here by VW, Volvo & Nissan and maybe Mercedes too. Revolutionary and exciting changes are in the air for automobiles.

Good that at least one auto manufacturer is building a sensible EV. Considering that the maximum that an average Indian business traveler does in a day is 500 to 600 km, a range of 312km means a days run will need only one fast charging halt, and if it is combined with a bio break, it will actually not waste time.

Looks like a very practical offering from Hyundai and I like the very conventional looking design including the engine bay layout. Kudos to Hyundai:thumbs up for bringing the Kona to India, looks like a very promising Electric daily drive car. Hyundai really knows the pulse of the Indian car buyer.
Anything more than 500 KM range from a single charge looks very practical and the Hyundai should definitely offer the 64KW version in India that has the >500 km range per charge.
Would love to see a fast transformation of the vehicle landscape in India from Fossil to Electric powered vehicles with a vast infrastructure to charge these vehicles. I'd be very happy make a switch :)
More importantly, focus should be given on large scale renewable sources of power generation such as Wind, Solar and Hydro power plants rather than burning fossil fuels such as diesel and coal to generate power. Nuclear power plants can be a near term solution to meet our increasing power needs but should also be discouraged in the longer term in favour of renewable energy based power plants.
Are there rebates we can expect from the Govt ? Im determined to make my next car an electric !

Good on Hyundai for being bold enough to be the first manufacturer to bring a full-size EV to India. This car was on my shopping list late last year in Belgium, but I unfortunately had to drop it, since Hyundai didn't even have a test drive car in the country, and deliveries weren't starting till mid 2019. I needed my car no later than January 2019, and couldn't wait any longer.

Only Tesla has been able to breach that number. No other EV manufacturer is able to extract 500 kilometers from their car. The Kona EV 64 kWh has an estimated range of 258 miles as per the EPA, which is 415 kilometers, but even that can differ based on the actual usage, as seen below. Cold or hot weather will be detrimental to the range of the car.

Short answer is No. Only fleet electric cars will be subsidized (see below). No subsidies on private cars. But the major subsidy is in the form of GST. EVs will have only 12% of GST compared to 29% to 43% on petrol/diesel cars.

I read a post on the Nissan Leaf thread that suggested that Nissan’s EV sales would be restricted to B2B initially, that doesn’t seem to be the case with the Kona (thankfully).
A very welcome move by Hyundai.
Bigger players like Nissan, that are supposed to be kings of EVs are still warming their hands and Hyundai has already hit the ball out of the park. From what i understand, we will be getting the 39Kw variant that is supposed to have a 300-km range. If Hyundai is able to deliver a real world range of 250-kms, it will be a job well done. The expected 25-lacs price is also for the 39Kw variant IMO.
Kudos for the effort but who is going to be paying 30L for a compact SUV? At this price point it would end up being only a halo product and nothing more.
EVs will have to hit the market in the below 20 L price band for it to shake things up. Until then these vehicles will remain just an effort from the companies to showcase their abilities. Of course there will also be EVs from the top price bands but they will continue to remain a different section and not impact market share drastically .
I truly believe if the two major brands provide affordable EV's then charging points and other hurdles will vanish in less than a year. Setting up charging points are not going to be that much of a challenge. What is the real hurdle? I may be naive.
All said and done the Kona seems like the right type of product but the price point mentioned seems like a big concern.
