Re: Lawsuit against Tesla after malfunctioning door handles left driver trapped in a burning car

Even the spy shots of upcoming XUV500 have similar looking handles. It won't probably function similar to Tesla, I hope Mahindra doesn't falter like Tesla did.

The old handles could be made flush. So should move back to them. I don't know why regulators are not active when it comes to modern tech. US is stubborn in not allowing things in cars coming out of Europe. They are liniet to US stuff and there is not enough testing. With airbags they do some extra things to enable people to come out easily

TESLA has cleared NCAP testing with flying colours. Whereas Nexon had to do without electronic door locking to get 5 star rating. They removed that feature in older Nexons too. So two sets of rules here?

Re: Lawsuit against Tesla after malfunctioning door handles left driver trapped in a burning car

My first question is- didn't the fire personnel have Hydraulic tools (Jaws of Life) to cut open the body shell to save the occupant(s)? Was it because they didn't have the right tools or was the car burning out of control?

The principal issue with Tesla and many other companies is that they want to re-invent everything just to differentiate themselves. Innovation to solve a problem is a great thing- EVs instead of ICEs, touch screen phones instead of regular keypad phones. Innovation for the sake of innovation is sometimes pointless/hazardous- Touch screen ICEs, electronic door handles etc.

Even Range Rover has adopted these handles for the Velar. As much as it looks clean, I am not a fan of these door handles.

Wait and watch. This can also be a canard from the competitors. Even if there are some bad handles why make such a hullabaloo about it.

Well, this also applies to their new cyber truck which is claimed to have stronger glass windows. In an event of crash and occupants aren’t accessible through doors, rescuers use conventional method of breaking windows / windshield to free the occupants. If manufacturers are resorting to making their cars safer from external factors, how are they planning to free the occupants when they’re stuck?

Cyber truck is now a concerning thing with glass doors being unbreakable kind. Manufacturers are now resorting to having USP’s in making their cars sell. Elon should look at something not so dependent on software / computer to free the occupants in terms of fire crisis or any issues arising out of an accident.

Elon has already provided a live demonstration of how to break the armored glass. First hit the doors with a sledge hammer. Then throw a steel ball on the windows. It is just that the emergency response team has to ensure they carry both the tools.

And they do not hit the occupants in that process.
Too much of human lives at risk here. Should have airline like regulations ie evacuation should be possible in 90 seconds.

Re: Lawsuit against Tesla after malfunctioning door handles left driver trapped in a burning car

We need windows that explode outwards on impact.

Notice that in the article they take pains to ensure that the person was incinerated yet couldn’t be identified.
“The medical examiner who responded to the crash wrote that Mr Awan “was not identifiable on scene.””

So who died? How do they know a human was in the car?

Plus it caught fire again? Destroying all evidence.
Maybe it was a dummy in an auto drive mode. This sounds like a manufactured story.

Re: Lawsuit against Tesla after malfunctioning door handles left driver trapped in a burning car

even though tesla's door handles are electric, they can still be opened manually via a proper pull on the door handles. Its just a way to blame the manufacturers as even the owners have a misinformation about the cars

https://www.washingtonpost.com/techn...la-plaid-fire/
Quote:
"Once he saw the fire shoot out of the back, that’s when he immediately pulled over to try to exit the vehicle,” Setchen said. “He tried to get out of the vehicle; he was pushing the door frantically and it would not engage.”
Finally, he said, the owner put the weight of his body against the door.
“He was able to push the button again and lean against the door very hard and that’s when it opened up”
The details on why the driver claims of being trapped is a bit sketchy at best and the investigation is ongoing. It is too early to say if the driver was indeed trapped.

The worrying fact is - the most popular EV in today's world has the ability to catch fire on random occasions, when being driven.
