Bajaj Qute-based EV could be called QCar

Bajaj has registered the QCar name for its Qute-based electric vehicle (EV).

New spy images of the electric version of the Qute have also surfaced online. The test car looks similar to the Qute but has the QCar badge at the rear. Note that it's a 'Left Hand Drive' version, which suggests that Bajaj will export it to international markets.

The Bajaj Qute was launched earlier this year and is available in petrol and CNG variants. It uses a 216.6cc, single-cylinder engine that produces 13 BHP @ 5,500 rpm and 18.9 Nm of torque @ 4,000 rpm and comes paired with a 5-speed gearbox. Details of the electric variant are not yet known.

Instead of this silly form factor which does not appeal (IMHO) to neither personal nor fleet buyers, Bajaj should concentrate on capturing the Tata Magic (passenger transportation) and Tata Ace (small cargo) markets with EVs. They are already working on EV variant of their compact auto. In addition, they can easily expand to other major segments mentioned above.

Re: Bajaj Qute-based EV could be called QCar

It is not a silly form factor at this day and age. As traffic and car density increases, such form factors will find appeal among the urban commuters. A car in that form factor with all the safety features is all an urban commuter needed. I have always wanted a car similar to the one that Inspector Clouseau has in the pink panther movie. I think it was a smart fourtwo. QCar kind of looks like the earlier versions of Smart fourtwo.

But knowing Bajaj , I am sure the only safety equipment in their car will be the metal cage.
