Mercedes-Benz to launch electric G-Class

According to a tweet by Sascha Pallenberg, Head of Digital Transformation, Daimler AG, Mercedes is expected to build an electric version of the G-Class.

It is said that Mercedes had the option to phase out the G-Class, but has decided to launch an electric version instead. The specifications of the electric G-Class, as well as its launch date, are unclear. The car could be launched under the EQ brand. It is likely to be sold alongside other EQ models like the upcoming EQ S, the electric version of the S-Class.

At present, the G-Class is available with a 2.9-litre, six-cylinder diesel engine in two states of tune and a 4.0-litre V8 petrol engine, which also comes in two states of tune.
