MG could launch affordable EV in India in 3-4 years
According to a media report, MG is planning to launch an affordable electric vehicle (EV) in India in the next 3-4 years. The carmaker will also set up a battery assembly unit in the country within 2 years.
MG's first electric vehicle in India will be the ZS EV that is scheduled to be launched early next year. It will be followed by the setting up of the battery assembly unit. MG has already committed to invest Rs. 5,000 crore in India by 2025. This does not include the investment that will be required to set up the battery unit.
MG has partnered with Fortum, Delta Electronics India and eChargeBays to set up charging points at customers' residences, dealerships and public places.

Re: MG could launch affordable EV in India in 3-4 years
Affordable in what sense? Will it be a hatchback or a compact SUV? If we discount the E2O which costs less than 10 lakh rupees and is going to be discontinued soon, then we are left with no other EV this side of 20 lakh rupees.
I think it will depend upon the success of the EZS and how fast the charging infrastructure comes up. To me the term "affordable" means something which costs less than 15 lakh rupees at least. The Nexon EV could be the first truly affordable EV to launch next year.
