MG's first electric vehicle in India will be the ZS EV that is scheduled to be launched early next year. It will be followed by the setting up of the battery assembly unit. MG has already committed to invest Rs. 5,000 crore in India by 2025. This does not include the investment that will be required to set up the battery unit.

MG has partnered with Fortum, Delta Electronics India and eChargeBays to set up charging points at customers' residences, dealerships and public places.

Re: MG could launch affordable EV in India in 3-4 years

Affordable in what sense? Will it be a hatchback or a compact SUV? If we discount the E2O which costs less than 10 lakh rupees and is going to be discontinued soon, then we are left with no other EV this side of 20 lakh rupees.

I think it will depend upon the success of the EZS and how fast the charging infrastructure comes up. To me the term "affordable" means something which costs less than 15 lakh rupees at least. The Nexon EV could be the first truly affordable EV to launch next year.

MG Motors working on 'affordable' electric car

Quote:
MG Motor India is ready to launch its first electric vehicle in India – the MG eZS. The electric SUV is slated to go on sale in December, 2019. With Hyundai Kona electric in its sight, the MG e-ZS is estimated to be priced around Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom). The British carmaker is also working on an affordable electric vehicle for India that will hit roads in the next 3-4 years, in the Rs 10-15 lakhs bracket.

With an investment of over Rs 5,000 crore, the company will set up a battery assembly facility for its electric vehicles in a couple of years. Talking to an online media publication, Rajeev Chaba, MG Motor India managing director, said that the company has technology and products and aims to lead the EV segment in the country.
MG is looking to take the lead in the electric space and put its first mover advantage to good use. The electric car segment is only going to grow, especially with the advent of more chinese players.
