MG Motor and Fortum Charge & Drive India have unveiled the first 50 kW DC charging station located at the MG showroom in Gurgaon.

Earlier this year, MG had partnered with Finland-based Fortum to set up charging stations in India. As part of the deal, Fortum has installed four public 50 kW fast charging stations in South Delhi, West Delhi, Noida & Gurugram. Six more fast chargers have been installed at MG dealer locations in Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad.

The smart chargers are compatible with CCS/CHAdeMO charging standards and users can access them by registering with Fortum Charge & Drive India through its Mobile App.

Re: MG & Fortum install first 50 kW DC fast charger in Gurgaon

Charging infrastructure is key to Ev segment manufacturers in India, will need to have smart tie up with service providers like Fortum if they intend to sell Ev to even the niche customers or early Ev adopters.

Fortum India & MG India 🇮🇳 need to come up with plans which are smart.

It seems Fortum will be placing itself as a grid like the Ather grid.

Fortum Drive & Charge app currently shows only two charging stations in New Delhi.

First, being located at New Moti Bagh & Second located at the NTPC Scope complex.
  • Login the app with basic details, OTP is generated for password, you can also put your credit or debit card details for payment.
  • App uses Google Maps to locate the charging station.
  • Once the Charging Station is selected you have the address & filters like the All Chargers, Available Charging points & Rapid Charger.
  • Currently no Rapid Chargers are available for public use.
  • Currently Charging is free of cost.
I am sure Fortum India will be offering charging options plans for other electric vehicles as well.

Attaching screenshots from the app itself:

Re: MG & Fortum install first 50 kW DC fast charger in Gurgaon

But.. there's no charging infrastructure.

You'll see these mushroom in no time. People need to understand the difference between the infrastructure (which is the grid) and a charging point.

These fast chargers are awesome when you're on the move. And so damn convenient - you can get serious range in a short while. They will also be especially useful on the highway = charge while you grab a breakfast or lunch.

That being said, it's going to be a long time before we see a vast network. The first wave of EV customers will be charging their cars at home only. Charge while you sleep at night .

Re: MG & Fortum install first 50 kW DC fast charger in Gurgaon

It's good to see at least one company taking the initiative. MG is also planning mobile charging stations - charging points on vehicles, which can go to an electric vehicle's aid at remote locations where a charger isn't available. MG has clearly said that it's not going to wait for the government to initiate setting up of infrastructure on highways etc and its going to do its bit so as to ensure all touch points are covered and anything that the government does is best considered as a bonus.

Re: MG & Fortum install first 50 kW DC fast charger in Gurgaon

Fortum India has updated its app.

The details of 50 kw rapid charging stations have been provided.

At present the rapid charging service is available in New Delhi, Mumbai , Banglore (at two outlets each ) and at single outlet each in Gurugram, Ahmedabad and Noida.

The city with the highest number of Fortum Charging stations is Hyderabad but currently No rapid charging option is available as per the app.

As per power ministry regulations for EVSE :

Link :

https://powermin.nic.in/sites/defaul...%20%281%29.pdf

Note that these charging stations fall under the service provider bracket so, it’s a “Service” to the consumer.

So ,Gst would be charged (how much %age I have no idea )

State Nodal agencies will fix the ceiling of these service charges.

An appropriate commission will determine the tariff for the supply of electricity to EV public charging stations.

However , the tariff shall Not be more than average cost of supply plus fifteen percent (15%)

For the domestic charging stations ,domestic charges will be applicable.

For domestic it would be interesting to know how much units the Ev consumes for full charge with a wall mounted charger to know exactly the cost of charging (ideally a solar charging set will leave a zero carbon imprint)

Rapid charging cost will vary from Duration of charge ,city and state.

Currently for Fortum it’s between ₹ 14.49 to ₹ 18.89 per minute depending on which city or state you reside.

In a nutshell ,for a 80% charge which will take around 45 minute (assuming you have an MG Zs Ev or even eKona ) the amount to be paid @14.49 will be ₹ 652 (without gst ) and ₹ 850 @ 18.89 (without gst)

I think much clarity will come once Mg Zs Ev is officially launched on 5th Dec 2019.

As Ev charging plans would be included in the package

Re: MG & Fortum install first 50 kW DC fast charger in Gurgaon

MG Motor India has issued a statement that it has installed 10 Fast Chargers at dealerships ahead of the ZS EV launch.

It's good to see that they are acting on their commitment and providing a 5 point charging ecosystem for ZS EV customers.
