The motors deliver 186 PS and 410 Nm of peak torque in the RWD version, allowing a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 7.9 seconds and a range (NEDC) of 403 km. In the AWD version, the same motors generate 301 PS and 665 Nm of torque. As a result, the 0-100 km/h acceleration time reduces to 370 km but the range (NEDC) reduces to 370 km.

MG should consider bringing it as a flagship model - to boost their image if nothing else!

Looks pretty good and convincing for an electric car. Price would have been one of the factors for not bringing this in at the moment. If the success of the ZS EV continues, they just might look into getting this to our shores.

After the Nexon EV brought the party to MG's front door, they really must be on the drawing board in order to get a more economical EV in the 10-20 lakh segment as that's the sweet spot where customer demand and profitability meet.

MG Marvel R:

The Sino-British brand MG Motor continues its offensive in Europe with the Marvel R. This 100% electric family SUV develops up to 300 hp, offers 2 or 4WD and can travel 400 km in one charge.

MG is moving up a gear with the Marvel R, a premium family SUV. 4.67 m long, it is positioned between a Volkswagen ID.4 and the next Tesla Model Y. It is the clone of the eponymous model at Roewe, a Chinese brand that belongs to the SAIC group. The Marvel R is manufactured in China, in Nanjing, in a SAIC/Volkswagen factory (joint venture)

Two versions are already offered: a first in propulsion of 180 hp (two engines on the rear gear), and a second in four-wheel drive of 288 hp (three-engine). The latter is capable of reaching 200 km/h maximum speed and ensures the 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds.

Both share the same 70 kWh battery pack, with range of 402 and 370 km respectively depending on the WLTP cycle.

MG has confirmed that its new Marvel-R electric SUV will be offered in Europe.

On sale from later this month, the Marvel-R is priced from €39,990 (£34,000) in entry-level Comfort trim and €47,990 (£40,820) in range-topping Performance guise

Comfort and Luxury variants get a dual-motor, rear-wheel-drive powertrain providing 178bhp and 302lb ft for a 0-62mph time of 7.9sec, while the Performance adds a motor on the front axle, boosting output to 285bhp and 490lb ft and cutting the 0-62mph time by a whole 3.0sec.

A 70kWh battery pack is fitted as standard to all cars, providing the Marvel-R with a WLTP-certified range of 230-250 miles, depending on drivetrain.

The passenger compartment of the Marvel R remained stable in the frontal offset test. Dummy numbers showed good protection of the
knees and femurs of both the driver and passenger. Structures in the dashboard were thought to present a risk of injury to occupant of
different sizes and to those sitting in different positions, and protection of this body region was rated as marginal. Protection of the driver’s
chest was also rated as marginal, based on readings of chest compression. Analysis of the deceleration of the impact trolley during the
test, and analysis of the deformable barrier after the test, revealed that the Marvel R would be a moderately benign impact partner in a
frontal collision. In the full width rigid barrier test, protection of all critical body regions was rated as good or adequate, except for the pelvis
of the rear passenger. During the test, the pelvis slipped under the lap section of the seatbelt – a phenomenon known as ‘submarining’.
The score for this body regions was penalised as a result, and protection rated as poor. In the side barrier test, protection of all critical
body regions was good and the Marvel R scored maximum points in this part of the assessment. In the side barrier impact, measurements
of rib deflection indicated weak chest protection but that of other parts of the body was good. Limitation of occupant excursion - the extent
to which the occupant is flung to the other side of the vehicle in a side impact - was rated as adequate. The Marvel R has a centre airbag
as a counter-measure against occupant to occupant injuries in side impacts. In Euro NCAP’s test, the heads of the front seat occupants
made contact and protection against such injuries was rated as poor. Tests on the front seats and head restraints demonstrated good
protection against whiplash injures in the event of a rear-end collision. However, a geometric assessment of the rear seats indicated poor
whiplash protection. The Marvel R has an advanced eCall system to alert the emergency services in the event of a collision, and a braking
system which helps to prevent secondary impacts.

It would be interesting to know if MG would launch a variant of Marvel X at 30L+ price range or a facelift version of MGZSEV 2022 or a sub 20L version of MG ZS EV with a lower range of around 200KM in India in H1 2022.

My bet would be on sub 20L variant of MG ZS EV that could take on the NEV and possibly even soon to be introduced eKUV300.
