3rd-gen Fiat 500 : An all-electric car

This looks beautiful

It may be slightly tricky to tell at first glance, but this is actually it – the brand-new Fiat 500.

Whilst the looks may not be radically different, the powertrain certainly is. That’s because this third-gen 500 will only be available as a fully electric vehicle.

And a very nice Launch video

Wonderful launch video! Thank you for sharing.

The little Fiat looks awesome, and I feel this can bring a brand revival, riding on the EV wave. Fiat normally doesn’t go wrong in making good looking cars, but I hope they get it right on ergonomics and driving dynamics as well.

Thank you sharing this Turbanator. An incredibly beautiful car. Certainly will do well in Europe given their needs for individual cars. How I wish it had more practical rear seat space to be useful in an Indian context. Where design goes you have to hand it to the Italians. Even their warships and battle tanks have handsome looks - literally!!

What an awesome presentation, had me hooked for the entire duration, no nonsensical laser presentation and beats, just him telling how it is. Hopefully, this car arrives in India in the future

Actually nothing new. Not well known but Fiat launched a full Electrical Fiat already in 2012. Just about every single one went to California as it.

Here one of the media clippings from 2012:

https://www.wired.com/2012/11/fiat-500e-la/

There is a Dutch company that brings these early E500s to the Netherlands, via Germany. It is easier to get cars from the USA into Germany, get them EU approved and then they can be sold all over the EU. They sell for about Euro15-16000.

Friends of mine bought one about half a year ago. Funnily enough not so much for the environment, but more for convenience. They live north of Amsterdam. Both their professional as personal life means they often find themselves in Amsterdam centre. Parking is a huge problem. However, parking an electric car, as they have dedicated spots, often with a charger is a lot easier!

They never charge their car at these parking spot though. Their home has 24 solar panels!

Re: 3rd-gen Fiat 500 : An all-electric car

My previous post from a few days ago mentioned the earlier much unknown electric Fiat 500. These were introduced by Fiat in 2012 thereabouts to California.

Today I happened to visit the Classic car salon in Antwerp. Lo and behold, one of these Californian E-Fiats for sale!

I had a little chat with they guy selling them. Sounds like he is getting them from the same source as my friends. It is actually the same colour too. He told me that Fiat sold them originally with an 8 year warranty on the battery pack!

This one is a 2015 version, done 46000 km, range 160km, costs Euro 16.940 and is offered with a one year warranty. I just noticed that the colour on this plague says grey?!. The car is very orange!

My friends are very pleased with their little E-Fiat. Although it does eat tires. To keep the tyre resistance low, these cars sit on quite narrow little tyres, And if you drive them a bit sporty, which you tend to do, with these little cars, it is going to cost you in tyres. It might be small, but it is very heavy, all on those tiny narrow little tyres.
