All-electric ride hailing platform BluSmart Mobility will be celebrating World EV Day by driving a Mahindra eVerito electric car from Delhi to Mumbai.

The electric car began its journey today. It will cover approximately 1,376 km to reach Mumbai on September 9, 2020. The journey will take them through Neemrana, Kothputli, Jaipur and Pali in the state of Rajasthan. The car will then enter Gujarat and pass through Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat and Vapi.

The car will rely on fast charging stations to recharge its batteries. However, since there are fewer of these along the way, the team will also carry slow charging equipment. Majority of the slow charging will be done at shops, restaurants and motels. The company expects to save 94 kg of CO2 emissions during this trip.

In January 2019, BluSmart had undertaken a similar journey, which took them from Delhi to Jaipur - a mere 260 km stretch.

This will be an interesting trip if they are documenting it and providing regular updates.
Will watch this space for more updates.

I don't understand this or am I missing something??

Why are the No. plates yellow? The. EVs have a green board IIRC.
Would be great to have this documented along with all charging points and time taken per point for this journey.
Also, a realistic time taken vs ICE would be good.

This is an outdated and badly designed EV, an example of how not to make EVs. If it was up to me, I would rather do this with a modern and reasonable EV.:deadhorse

Sorry for a completely off-topic question:
Why is the car in pic wearing a yellow/black number plate? If it's an EV, shouldn't it be wearing a Green/Yellow plate?

Other than that, I see this as being completely pointless. If they really want to showcase how EVs can compare against an ICE car, might as well first develop a technology that can take us a decent 550/600 kilometres in a charge?

6 days to cover ~1400 km? Some folks can do it quicker with a bicycle!

Could be because this car was registered in Mar-2019(from vahan) and the green number plate rule came later, unless you have some parking or toll gate benefits there is no point changing to green plates.

True, the problem with this EV is with all the efficient way of driving you can go may be 140- 150km. So requires 10 charging stops, if they could manage 3 fast charging stops of 90 mins the other 7 stops require each 11 hrs.

3*1.5 + 7*11=80.5 hrs of charging. This only makes the naysayers say, I know electric won't work in India.

Unless showing off some new tech (which they don't seem to be), this long journey is a joke and actually bringing a bad reputation to EVs.

I was wondering about the time as well. Too slow a pace than expected. Perhaps too much time is lost in charging? Maybe they have promotional stops on the way? Would be nice if they share the daily update.

Perhaps in future, we can have "electrified" highways, with over the air wireless charging ability for vehicles.
Something like this, but cranked up for much higher capacity

This is an ideal promo for Tesla, when they plan to launch in India. Imagine 100 Teslas doing Delhi - Mumbai in 2 days, that would be a great boost to EV.

agree:

Good initiative, wrong car :Frustrati. They should have used the Nexon EV, Kona or MG EZS. If anything, this drive will only show to the public:

- How outdated the Verito is

- How slow the eVerito is, thereby giving EVs a bad name

- The innumerable number of times the eVerito requires charging (every 100 km??), thereby and again giving EVs a bad name

It's like showing up at your wedding in a 20-year old, wornout & ill-fitting suit. Makes me question if BluSmart Mobility actually knows anything about EVs? We need to move on from such lousy jugaad electric cars & showcase the nicer, modern ones.

Oh god! Do these idiots not realise they are making a laughing stock out of themselves?

They did 290km and needed to charge the car twice. TWICE!! So much for hypermiling. I mean, is it 2005 or 2020? Kona and ZS can do that on a full charge anyway. This kind of PR is shameful and brings an unnecessarily bad name to EVs.

The goal here is to complete the longest EV trip. Once the record is achieved, few customers will ask about how many days it took. They don't claim to be the fastest on this route- they claim to be the first.

The Verito may be old, but the underpinnings are very strong and possibly better than most popular sub 4m cars today. Very few cars can take in 5 adults comfortably and a huge amount of luggage as well.

Even here they are not first, it's already done in a MG ZS EV.
