Proud moment for Tata | Nexon EV at the Republic Day parade

So earlier today, I was at the republic day parade. There were some lovely tableaus today, but the one that really caught my attention was the one based on the theme 'Vocal for Local'. The main display item of this particular tableau was the Nexon EV!
It is indeed a proud moment for Tata to be a part of the parade. Here's a couple of pictures I clicked:

Indeed it is a proud moment!

It shows the will of the government to help and appreciate any genuine Indian product. Tata has really outdone itself with the Nexon EV. Kudos to the entire Tata group or should I say Tata uni(E)Verse team..

Re: Proud moment for Tata | Nexon EV at the Republic Day parade

As an ex-Tata car owner I feel immense pride in how much far Tata cars have come . There were folks back in the day who told me to sell my car just within a week of taking delivery. The brand reputation was that bad. There were Folks who had never even driven/purchased/experienced Tata cars & yet bad mouthed the brand. The shift to what Tata motors are today is immense. Something similar to Robert Downey Jr. resurrecting his career. Perhaps they could get him as a brand ambassador Just Kidding.

As an Indian we can truly say to the World, this is OUR car. Feels pride in saying our home brand has brought about a worthy challenger. Keep in mind it is not easy to design a car to withstand our road conditions, craters, crazy traffic and above all power it with EV technology. Tata Motors keep surprising us !

Credit also goes to the government for recognizing what Tata did with the Nexon EV.

It is probably the only practical EV with a cost that is almost comparable to its ICE version (but can we get more range please?). Also, its been on the market for over a year and sold more than 2000 units, and we haven't seen any major issues coming up, which shows the amount of effort Tata has put into its design, development and QC.

As a proud Tata owner, am glad to see the direction in which the company is moving.

Re: Proud moment for Tata | Nexon EV at the Republic Day parade

This month I had test driven Nexon EV for my father-in-law. I came away very impressed, and quality of exterior and interior is just top notch. I felt like I was driving an imported car. I never expected Tata to deliver such a premium product.

So they have all the reasons to be proud, and show off on RD parade.

Re: Proud moment for Tata | Nexon EV at the Republic Day parade

I remember the time when the Indica came out. India under the ABV Govt had just conducted the Pokhran nuclear tests and US had slapped an embargo. The overall attitude that time was, who cares, bring it on. On this background the Indica got special love and affection when it was launched, albeit after some delay.

Their next venture to make the citizens proud was the Nano. To this date I haven't figured out why it bombed.

Anyway I am so happy to see Tatas continue this glorious tradition. Way to go Tata, we are proud of you.

Nano bombing was a pure PR failure, the cheapest car tag spooked the customers away. It was in the news most of the time for all the wrong reasons starting from Singur and with a few on fire, nothing helped.

Even the enthusiasts and fans stayed away.

I am personally looking forward to a relaunch in the E-Avatar.

I think the cost comparison may not be fair completely since the entry model for petrol is priced around 7 lakh + and entry model for EV being 14 lakh + which tops the petrol top model price by more than 1 lakh.

However for someone with that budget they can always go for higher segment ICE cars of the likes of Creta starting 10 lakh +.

I believe Mahindra e20 starting 7 lakh + is still the most affordable option as a daily drive city commute EV but gets beaten by the low range of 120 Km. May be with a lakh more premium if the range can be topped by 50% it will become a more appealing package.

If we see the entire parade, you would note that half the vehicles were from Tata Camp.
Not to mention the army trucks but also large fleet of Safari's as escort vehicles for VVVIP's, including in president's contingent.

Indeed that was a subtle push by TataMotors , happy to see Nexon EV is being a mainstream product of its own with sales crossing 3000 units !

Meanwhile a Republic parade from late 90s with complete Tatamotors portfolio of that time - Sierra , Sumo and Estate !

This was my point when I said that the Nexon is practical. It is a full size vehicle which is similar to its ICE versions in terms of body and space, unlike the E2O which is unique in terms of design and does not have a corresponding ICE counterpart. Nexon is better in terms of range too (although it is still too less for my liking). Also when you compare the EV with the corresponding Nexon ICE AMTs, especially the Diesel ones, the cost difference is about 3-4 Lakhs which is just the right amount of temptation for someone looking for a city car with low running cost. Also, depending upon where you are buying you get a discount on the road tax, plus the Govt. is also giving an income tax deduction of upto 1.5 Lakhs on the interest if the car is being purchased on loan. Of course, you will get the last two on an E2O as well, and I agree that it is definitely more affordable, but the Nexon still beats it on practicality, range and most other things.
