All-new GMC Hummer EV SUV unveiled

General Motors (GM) has taken the wraps off its all-new Hummer EV SUV. While the vehicle is expected to go into production from 2023, interested customers can reserve the electric SUV starting immediately.

The Hummer EV measures 4,999mm in length. It has a wheelbase of 3,218 mm and a turning circle of 10.8 m.



The new GMC Hummer EV will be offered in four variants: 2, 2x, 3x and First Edition. The range-topping First Edition will also come with an optional ‘Extreme Off-Road Package’. Prices for the new Hummer EV start from US$ 79,995 and go up to US$ 110,595 (equivalent of Rs. 59.68 lakh – Rs. 82.51 lakh), exclusive of taxes.

The new Hummer EV has a design similar to that of the old H2 and H3 models. It has a boxy silhouette, rugged looks and a distinct front end. The SUV also features removable roof panels and off-road specific features and equipment. The First Edition variant comes with 22-inch alloy wheels, step-assists, floor liners and underbody protection.



The Extreme Off-Road Package further adds features such as underbody armour, front elocker, rock sliders and UltraVision2 with underbody cameras among others. The off-roading package comes with 18-inch wheels and 35-inch OD MT tyres.



On the inside, the Hummer EV comes with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, 13.4-inch touchscreen head unit and a host of driver-assistance technologies. The vehicle will come with a host of customisable options as well.

Coming to the powertrain, the Hummer EV uses GM’s ‘Ultium Drive System’. This electric powertrain is said to produce 830 BHP, allowing a 0 – 100 km/h sprint in a claimed 3.5 seconds. GM estimates that the powertrain is capable of producing up to 15,591 Nm.



The GMC Hummer EV is claimed to offer a maximum range of 482 km from its 20-module battery system. However, the exact technical specifications of the battery pack are yet to be revealed.

2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV Edition 1 sold out.

Like the Hummer EV Edition 1 truck last October, not only has the SUV variant sold out, but it did so in less than an hour.

Those who attempted to purchase but were turned down because they weren't fast enough will see their reservation transferred to another (less expensive trim).

The EV3X trim, due a few months after the Edition 1 reaches customers in early 2023, will have the same overall power and battery setup, sans the special badging. That means a tri-motor configuration totaling 830 horsepower and 11,500 lb-ft of torque.

I'm not sure if it is just me. The exterior design looks like a cross between the Hummer and FJ Cruiser.

Proof that the GM guys learned nothing from the financial crisis, cash-for-clunkers and the bailout. Putting an electric motor in this car just sweeps the reasons why this car generated intense hatred under the rug. I distinctly remember the series of ads in US television. One was against driving big SUVs, particularly GMC and Chevy ones. Another showed a teen with a phone charger plugged to the wall and how it damages the environment. Imagine someone dusting off that ad and running on TV with the phone charger replaced with a EV Hummer! The wokes will rally against it, making it a hit among bros - just to trigger the wokes. Fun times ahead!

Seems like this thing will become a hit due to the lack of a proper EV pickups out there & Can already imagine this thing flooding the streets in Dubai and LA.
The one prominent question that remains is whether this will be used in the Army, especially on tours abroad.

It gives me a sensation whenever I see a Hummer H2, brings back those old days when I used to aspire owning this beast. Out of budget then out of budget now

Hummers being the guzzlers were thrown out of the market but EV has given the model a new life. I believe we will see good numbers for this.

To be fair, the US car market has changed a lot since then. SUVs and pickup trucks are even more popular now than they were then and big body-on-frame SUVs have actually increased in popularity. And most of these new SUVs and pickups are already bigger than the Hummer H2. The main issue with the original Hummer was the fuel economy problem but now as an electric car, I really don’t see the problem. This is an electric vehicle specifically for segments of the US car market who like big vehicles and that’s a significant proportion. Better the GMC Hummer EV being sold than a GMC Yukon Denali.

I don't know what is the problem with the "environmental" activist kinds. This car is pure EV. It doesn't generate carbon emissions (not directly anyway) and manages a respectable 450+ km per charge. Halo products such as these are essential in building up public support and acceptance of EV in mainstream vehicle purchase. If you wish to ponder on actually saving the environment, switch off your ac, take public transport, ditch the smartphone, macbook and definitely don't fly commercial or otherwise.

The GMC Hummer EV pickup will weigh 9,046 Pounds as per reports & that could make it one of the heaviest passenger cars on the road. This might make things difficult to pull this thing out of a stuck situation.

When you have a heavier vehicle, you need more batteries to keep it going for a reasonable range, and that can snowball—such seems to be the case with the 2022 GMC Hummer EV. According to GM-Trucks.com, the new electric truck weighs no less than 9,046 pounds, which would make it one of the heaviest passenger cars on the road.

Now, to be clear, this weight is being reported for the truck that's going to come out the soonest, the Edition 1 pickup. It's also the most powerful and expensive version of the vehicle with a $112,595 price tag, three electric motors, and 1,000 horsepower. Even with a weight reported at over 9,000 pounds, it's said to go zero to 60 in a genuinely impressive three seconds.

The Hummer EV Edition 1 has a 200-kilowatt-hour battery pack, which is huge. For reference, the longest-range Tesla Model S has a battery pack half that size. Partially because of that extra weight, GM is still estimating ranges short of the Tesla's claimed 400+ miles. It's worth noting, though, that Tesla vehicles sometimes fail to meet their EPA ratings. The Detroit automaker claims a range of 350+ miles for the Hummer.
