Tata Nexon EV gets updated infotainment system, new 5-spoke alloys

Earlier this month, Tata Motors introduced a slew of updates on the Nexon, which included new 5-spoke alloy wheels and an updated infotainment system. Now, the Nexon EV also gets the same updates.

Tata has swapped the Nexon's alloy wheels with a more conventional-looking 5-spoke diamond-cut design. While the new design looks good, we prefer the old style which was pretty unique.

On the inside, Tata has given the Nexon EV an updated infotainment system. The physical buttons and knobs on the centre console have been deleted. Functions like Home, Favorites, Back, Smartphone and Next / Previous, can now be operated via the touchscreen.

The electric crossover retains its 127 BHP electric motor that is powered by a 30.2 kWh battery pack. The car has an ARAI certified maximum range of 312 km on a single charge (MIDC cycle).

The Nexon EV comes with fast charging and the battery can be charged to 80% of its capacity using a DC fast charger in 1 hour. Using a standard AC charger, it takes 8-9 hours to charge to 100%.

Tata Motors is also rumoured to introduce the Dark Edition of the Nexon EV.

I see this annoying and dangerous trend continue to creep into more and more cars. With physical switches for commonly used functions like those for climate control and for volume control etc you can develop a muscle memory and feel around for the switches to operate them quickly and without taking your eyes of the road.

As everything goes to a touchscreen, you absolutely have to look at the screen to see where you're tapping to avoid accidental presses.

I hope automakers see some sense and keep at least the most common functions in their current physical form.

The biggest issue with touchscreens is that the driver is forced to operate them with his left hand. An overwhelming majority of people are right handed. My left hand simply does not have the dexterity and absolute control to operate the clumsy interface while driving, and I am sure that’s the case with so many others.
