Tesla Model 2 electric hatchback in the works for 2023; to rival the Nissan Leaf

Tesla is said to be working on a new product, called 'Model 2'. The new product is said to come in the form of an affordable electric hatchback, which will take on the likes of the Volkswagen ID.3, Nissan Leaf and the Kia e-Niro.

According to a media report, the new Tesla Model 2 is expected to arrive in international markets in 2023. The new electric hatchback is said to be based on the brand's extremely popular Model 3 sedan while being positioned below it in the brand's product lineup.

Reports also suggest that the Model 2 would be priced at around GBP 20,000; making it Tesla's most affordable offering by a significant margin - for reference, the Tesla Model 3 prices start at GBP 40,990.

Tesla is said to be developing a new battery technology, which claims to bring down production costs by up to 50 per cent, allowing for the drastic shift in pricing. The new battery technology is also said to provide five times more energy and 16 per cent more range per charge. This should also allow the upcoming Tesla Model 2 to offer a competitive range of around 250 miles.

A 15-18 lakh Tesla hatch does make sense for our Indian market. I personally would be delighted to see a mass market under 10 lakh made in India Tesla with good enough range and power.

Re: Tesla Model 2 electric hatchback in the works for 2023; to rival the Nissan Leaf

IMO, just giving it a crossover stance (little higher GC, plastic cladding) would be much better from perspective of advertising.

It would otherwise be seen as a “expensive hatchback” just like the A class is. GLA sells far more. Granted yes, it’s much costlier than £20K, but general Indian mentality is “why should I get a small car for near 20L”.

This is why Kona didn’t succeed as much as ZS — it’s like a hatch than SUV while ZS looks almost as big as a seltos or creta. The Nexon of course, enjoys a smaller price, so people aren’t as picky at that price.

Reportedly the £20k Tesla will differ between the Chinese market and EU market — from EU perspective, a hatch may be sensible, but looking at China, and India in years to come, a mere pseudoSUV styling and product placement would definitely boost sales.

Re: Tesla Model 2 electric hatchback in the works for 2023; to rival the Nissan Leaf

Honestly in terms of cities this car would be perfect. I mean if Tesla considers Model 2 to be the first launch in India, that would be a straightaway respect to bring the most up-to-date models. I was hoping Tesla would consider a hatchback at first for a market like India due to the non-existent infrastructures.

Also we should keep in mind the software which Tesla uses would not be to too much of full utilization in India.

But seeing this post i fully back to improvising the battery and bringing down the costs. More and more enthusiasts would be willing to buy once the price goes down!

Some info suggests that the company might not even call it the Model 2. An alternative name possibility is Model Q.

Re: Tesla Model 2 electric hatchback in the works for 2023; to rival the Nissan Leaf

Tesla reveals two new advances, a compact SUV for less than 25,000 euros and the possible robotaxi.

CEO of Tesla unveiled an important project in which the brand is already working. It is a new platform for electric vehicles, more affordable than the currently used Model 3 and Model Y.

Tesla shows the first preview in image of what looks like its future cheap compact SUV

Tesla Model 2 electric hatchback in the works for 2023; to rival the Nissan Leaf-screenshot-20230517-161850.png

Quote:
work is being done so that the production costs of this platform, which will give life to two new models, are reduced by half. "We are designing a new product. Both the design of the products and the manufacturing techniques of this are far above anything else present in the industry."

For the occasion, a teaser image of one of these two vehicles was shown. Without being confirmed or denied, everything indicates that it is a compact SUV, smaller than the Tesla Model Y, and that it would be the electric $ 25,000 that they have been talking about in Tesla since 2020. The predicted Model 2?

The second vehicle in question would be Tesla's anticipated robotaxi, which could give rise to a specific type of vehicle for chauffeured transport services, such as taxis, VTC ... and shared trips? In this regard, Elon Musk said that "they will not be relevant in the world of autonomous driving."
