Re: Tata to launch another electric car - Tigor EV with Ziptron

Does anyone know the maximum battery capacity(kWh) and motor power(kW/hp) that the Ziptron architecture can support?
Or do they have to develop a new architecture for bigger cars like Harrier/Safari? Are the JLR electric platforms feasible on mass market cars?

It is a modular add-on, no need to rewire or break anything, you just route the port through this hardware and use the accessory to enable Cruise on or off. I will use this only during highway runs and it isn't useful in city cruises anyway. I am least bit worried about warranty, and that's my thinking as always for any product. Use the product to its fullest and enjoy it rather than worrying about warranty.

Re: Tata to launch another electric car - Tigor EV with Ziptron

Such a bummer there was no range reveal or price reveal.

It appears that Tigor EV will only have one colour — Teal Blue from EV lineup of Tata.

Then again, most of the Nexon EVs I saw in Lucknow were in Teal colour. Didn’t spot any grey Nexon EV at all. Makes sense why’d they want only single colour.

There is option for Dual tone in XZ+ trim (which adds black roof)

On another note:

Are we sure it’s 0-100 for 5.7s? That’s too damn fast for a 75BHP motor. That’s near Tesla Model 3 SR+ category which does 5.3s sprint for 0-100, but has a 220kW motor or near 4x the power (293BHP)

I think the number has been misunderstood as 0-60kph time. For Nexon, the 0-60 time is quoted as 4.6s and 0-100 of 9.9s

Re: Tata to launch another electric car - Tigor EV with Ziptron

We can derive the range by extrapolating info from Nexon EV. Nexon comes with 30.2kwh battery pack, where the usable battery pack is 28.6 (95%).
By that logic, the usable capacity for Tigor EV is 24.7 Kwh. Now the range is dependent on the terrain, and driving style, taking 120wh/km as standard usage in city, you will get 205km range. However, if we were to take ARAI certified range that would be 312km for Nexon, the same would come to 270km.

Re: Tata to launch another electric car - Tigor EV with Ziptron

What a disappointing launch with some low-budget CGI backgrounds. No information about the most important range numbers. No price details either. They should have launched this for fleet purposes.

This is what Rajiv Bajaj said recently about the kind of leadership and management needed for EVs. This applies to all other automobile companies. The electric car market really needs a disruptor just like for 2 wheelers.

Quote:
"I would say candidly, maybe 'we' including 'me' are not necessarily the most appropriate top management to lead this company forward into the electric space," Bajaj told CNBC-TV18.

Bajaj also said that the company might require a different kind of talent across functions, including top management, to tackle the challenge of electrification.

"With a sense of humility, we are saying to ourselves, that maybe the existing Bajaj Auto, as defined first and foremost by its existing talent may not be best placed to make the most of this opportunity," he said.

"What I mean by that is, first of all, at the operating level, quite clearly from R&D, through operations to marketing, the people that were good to make. Vespa scooters have a certain vintage were not up to the task of making Japanese motorcycles of the 90s. So this could be true once again," Bajaj told the news channel.

Re: Tata to launch another electric car - Tigor EV with Ziptron

Disappointing launch by Tata Motors.
They could easily launched the Tigor with the same battery pack as Nexon. This would increased the usable real world range to 250Km+. Also the peak power is 74Ps which is quite less but will aid in increasing range.

Also no information on pricing. Looks like Tata Motors want to keep the pricing to under 10L with this battery pack.

5.7s is for 0-60KMPH, definitely not for 0-100, no way a 74Ps motor can do such times.

Re: Tata to launch another electric car - Tigor EV with Ziptron

Any information on the Expected Range of this thing?
I guess Tata has played it safe with the Tigor EV to help get the pricing low enough to make it practical.

74 bhp? Seriously?! Why does Tata keep doing this to the tigor? 100 bhp and 200 Nm torque would have made the tigor EV very enjoyable. Anyway, let's see if its priced to justify the specs.

Re: Tata to launch another electric car - Tigor EV with Ziptron

My dad was so looking forward to the Tigor EV and he immediately called multiple Tata Motors dealers in Chennai post the YouTube reveal. Seems the price is Rs 14 lakhs on road for the base variant.

Re: Tata to launch another electric car - Tigor EV with Ziptron

Have to applaud TATA for their consistency! Be it ICE or electric, they will always give step brother treatment to Tigor.

Every car in current TATA lineup is selling very well in terms of their segment except for Tigor. The chief reason is due to mediocre petrol engine when TATA could easily have managed to replicate Nexon specs in Tigor as well. Now they are repeating the same mistake in electric space as well. I also don't understand the concept of managing umpteen versions of engines (in different tunes)and now battery packs. Does no one in TATA management know about economies of scale?

They are going to start sale in 12 days. They built a big hype for 2 weeks on unveil which happened today without 2 main components -- Driving Range and Price Reveal! Amazing level of tactics.

But with just 74bhp shouldn't the wh/km decrease to below 100wh/km at the least? Also this should weigh around 150kg less than Nexon EV so expecting less wh/km in equivalent driving conditions.

Re: Tata to launch another electric car - Tigor EV with Ziptron

Few observations:

1) Battery is loaded in the boot and below the rear seat and not under the floor like Nexon. This means the weight distribution is completely different from the ICE engine cars and even the Nexon EV. I expect Tigor EV to be dynamically limited, with a light front end and not as good as nexon or the ICE tigors. I hope I am wrong.

2) Spare wheel sits inside the boot, and not under it. Like many luxury cars.

3) No alloy wheels. Black and beige interior scheme (like Nexon EV) looks smarter than black and gray from ICE car.

4) Can it deliver 100 Wh/Km efficiency? Its a lighter chassis with lighter battery and lighter motor and more aero dynamic design to a layman. Can it be 10 to 20 percent more efficient than the Nexon EV? The real world driving range might be close to Nexon EV's real world range.

5) Gets a small color instrument cluster panel.

I have a feeling Tigor EV is going to be competently priced and could be a compelling city choice.

Re: Tata to launch another electric car - Tigor EV with Ziptron

I would say real world range will be not more than 175 km. Closer to 150 km of usable range considering one would not want to drive till discharge.
