Vivo files trademark for EVs in India

Smartphone manufacturer Vivo plans to enter the EV space. The company has even filed a trademark application in India.

Vivo is not the only smartphone maker that plans to launch an electric car. Other China-based brands like OnePlus and Oppo have also announced similar plans.

OnePlus has filed a trademark for "oneplus life" in India. The company is working on driverless cars, self-balancing scooters, self-balancing boards, remote control vehicles, civilian drones and self-balancing electric unicycles.

Reports suggest that Oppo could launch its EVs in the Indian market by early 2024.

Xiaomi, Huawei and Apple also plan to enter the electric vehicle space in the future.

Re: Vivo files trademark for EVs in India

somehow, given the current geopolitical landscape in India wrt China, I doubt this will actually happen, whether it is Oppo, Oneplus or Vivo. Electric vehicles in India need a certain level of investment and risk, which any pragmatic company would not take, especially knowing the aforementioned geopolitical conditions.
One might argue the case of MG, but then they came in before the whole Galwan valley issue started, so they were able to hold on. How much successful it might be with an experimental tech (atleast in the Indian context) such as EVs, will depend on the risk taking apetite of the parent company sitting in China, which I doubt, would be very high.

Oppo, Vivo and OnePlus are all part of the parent company BKK. Which means they probably will share the same platform. However the customer will get more choices then. Maybe they will be able to bring out EVs which will give a real world range of 500 kms under ₹15 lacs. (Apologies for being too optimistic )
