Visibility of the green number plates of EVs

We have seen good number of electric cars sold in India in past year or so. These cars have green coloured number plates. I have personally felt that it's really difficult to read a green colour number plate, especially during night time. If it's difficult to read the number plate, isn't it defeating the purpose of registration number? How would a car be identified if it commits a crime?

I was just curious, am I the only one who feels the same?

Instead of white lettering/ letters yellow or flourescent green shades should be used to ensure imo. Still it's better than white on black plates of yesteryears.

Agreed. White on green is not a good combination. There's not enough contrast. They should either make the letters black and green a lighter shade or make the green a much darker shade for white letters to be visible.

Re: Visibility of the green number plates of EVs

Was thinking of the same as more and more EVs ply on our roads. Todays spotted someone rash driving in a 2 wheeler EV. It will be really hard to note the number in any hit and run or similar scenario, heck this might become an intentionally preferred medium for chain snatchers etc. provided high pickup of the vehicle plus low visibility of number plate.

4 wheelers are still ok (only up to a certain extent) as they have bigger registration plates and use bigger and thicker fonts but it is insanely difficult to read out hardly from 10-15 mtrs distance on an EV 2 wheeler.

My suggestions: Bring white on black for EVs, or dark blue lettering on white, or white lettering on dark blue plate, or simply have a blue/green strip by the side to denote an EV much like govt officials do it with red strip. But not the current setup please.

About time this message reaches the higher authorities and proper action is taken before EVs reach more and more masses.

I don't get why a different colour scheme is required for EVs in the first place? Why is it necessary to identify if a particular vehicle is an EV or not? Can someone educate me on this?

So that bureaucrats can come up with genius schemes like odd-even policy.

The same doubt about Commercial vehicles. What is the use of a different color number plate for Commercial, self-drive vehicles?
