2023 Hyundai Kona unveiled; gets electric, hybrid & ICE options
Hyundai has taken the wraps off the next-gen Kona for the global markets. The new model comes in a completely new design and is offered with three powertrain options: Pure Electric, Hybrid and ICE.
The 2023 Kona is 150 mm longer and 25 mm wider than its predecessor. The wheelbase has also gone up by 60 mm. In terms of design, the crossover features an LED light bar up front with headlamps positioned on the front bumper. It gets triangular tail lamp clusters and a sleek LED light bar at the rear.
The 2023 Kona gets a futuristic interior with a sleek dashboard and a large curved screen that houses a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a similarly sized touchscreen infotainment system. The car also gets a shift-by-wire gear selector.
Mechanical details of the new Kona will be announced at a later date. However, Hyundai has confirmed that the car will get the sporty N Line treatment as well.
Here in India we still have the 2019 version of Hyundai Kona. I really hope they run out of the legacy kits and are forced to introduce the new model.
Unlike the previous model, this is designed as an EV, then modified for ICE and Hybrid. Believe the battery pack is properly integrated instead of protruding out like the existing Kona.
Looks very sharp. Wonder what the timeline will be to bring this to India. It certainly looks more crossover ish than the current iteration. Wonder how the light bar will appear in the rear view mirror, hopefully not too bright to be distracting.
Equally wonder if the other variants than the EV come to these shores.

Another detailed walkaround with clear shots of the interior of the next gen Kona EV.

It was earlier speculated that the next gen Kona EV was conceived as an electric car which was then converted to ICE and hybrid variants. But as shown in the video above, the battery still hangs below the bodywork. Wonder why it is so!
Hyundai Kona sales are poor now. This new model should help Hyundai wrest the market from MG ZS. But will they launch it in 2023?
Old old 2019 Hyundai Kona has died battling MG ZS ev. 0 sales in Feb 2023. Hyundai, if you are not going to launch the new Kona in India, you might as well stop selling the old Kona too (noones buying the much inferior oldy anyway)
The current Kona in India has a Rs.50,000 discount in April.
The current Kona’s rear bench is the closest automobile equivalent of the Indian style toilet. Between the Nexon EV Max and ZS EV, these is absolutely no reason to go for the car, and that shows in sales figures. Hyundai might as well discontinue it altogether till it gets the new model.

They had a good 3L discount a few months back to clear their inventory i guess. Apparently they had no availability in Jan and i thought they had stopped.
But now there were rumors of the facelift version coming to India(only 3 year late). But again no variants and the same lackluster response from the company.

I do remember how bad it was, but this seemed just rl:
Though i must dispute, it felt more like an adult sitting on western style kids toilet.
On a serious note i think 5'6"-5'7" tall folks max can manage on it. Anyone taller will suffer even on short distances.

What?! They will now launch the facelift at a time when the world is getting the next gen Kona ?!
