The newly installed EV charging stations are equipped with a 150 kW DC ultra-fast charger and a 60 kW DC high-speed charger. According to Hyundai, the locations have been selected depending on the availability of amenities like coffee shops and restaurants.

Hyundai EV owners will be able to access these chargers via the myHyundai App. Using the app, customers will be able to locate and pre-book charging slots, monitor the charging status and make digital payments.

Hyundai plans to install 10 ultra-fast public charging stations in India in the first half of 2023. The network will be expanded to other highways such as Delhi-Jaipur, Mumbai-Pune and Bengaluru- Chennai; and cities including Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

Re: Hyundai installs DC fast chargers across key Indian highways

This is very good initiative from Hyundai to promote EVs and icing on the cake is they started with a location on my way to hometown

Instead of solely depending on third-party service providers, every EV manufacturer should start setting up their own charging stations like this.

Re: Hyundai installs DC fast chargers across key Indian highways

They are total 3 charging sockets available and the electricity rate per unit also lower than competition at 18/unit for 60kw and 24/unit for 150kw. This is too good from Hyundai.

A very goo initiative, just now I was replying in BYD review thread that how range Anxiety continues to be a big issue, but with more of these coming up it should make life that much easier. The fact that we can pre book will really help to kill the anxiety to certain level, as you know that when you reach you will have a slot available for you. The fact that these are exclusively available for Hyundai customer will also help them push there cars more.

Pricing seems to be great too, good Job Hyundai, need more of such initiatives from Tata, Mahindra, MG and BYD.

The charger and the features are available for all EV customers. Some functionalities like booking your slot are also available through MyHyundai app. I just double checked on the Chargezone app and I am able to book a slot in the new charger installed on Hyderabad - Vijayawada highway with my non-Hyundai vehicle.

Re: Hyundai installs DC fast chargers across key Indian highways

The good thing about these chargers is, they have 3 guns available (150KW, 60KW, and 30KW) at each station. So, at least 1 charger will be available. These are set up by ChargeZone and any EV owner can access these through the Chargezone app. At the same location (Hyd to Vij), there are 2 more chargers (Lion Charge: 24KW DC charger and Tata Power: 25KW DC). Ideally, these new chargers should have been somewhere near Suryapet as it's halfway between Hyderabad and Vijayawada and most cars start with 100% charging from Hyderabad.

Anyway, it's good to see more and more chargers being added on highways. If only Tata power went for quality over quantity with their charging network, we already would have a good network for most of the country.

Re: Hyundai installs DC fast chargers across key Indian highways

I wonder how it splits the power and whether full 150kw is available in charger plug B, when plug A is occupied and is charging at 30kw.

Hyundai could have gone with a higher rated charger, Ioniq 5 and EV6 in India have a maximum charge rate of around 220kw to 230kw respectively.

Re: Hyundai installs DC fast chargers across key Indian highways

I have used their 60 KW charger last week while going towards Vijayawada. It wasn't a flawless experience as the QR code wasn't getting scanned by Chargezone app. The attendant there fiddled for sometime and finally it worked. While returning it exhibited same behavior and the attendant wasn't there. So, I had to go back to Tata charger and charge there. Hope they were just teething issues during trial period and everything is smooth now. All CPOs should do what Zeon is doing. We should be able to just plug in and charge without having so many steps to do.

The other issue we might have is that the slow charging cars (Tata models etc.) will still take a lot of time in spite of higher capacity of these chargers. I hope EV users are knowledgeable enough to understand these nuances and help optimize the utilization of this upcoming infrastructure. Like in this case, there are 25 KW Tata and Lion chargers. If slow charging vehicles can use those and leave the fast chargers to cars that can take faster speeds. I know its not always possible but wherever it is people should co-operate.

Re: Hyundai installs DC fast chargers across key Indian highways

Great first step. I hope it gives them confidence to scale it massively. 10 fast chargers is not in sync with Hyundai's market position and market ambition.

Also I hope they keep it open to all EVs and not just Hyundai/Kia

That’s factually incorrect, KIA installed the first DC Ultra fast charger 240 kWh at the premises of Incheon Kia, Edapally.

Re: Hyundai installs DC fast chargers across key Indian highways

Bravo, Hyundai.

I hope chains like bp pulse that do not have a large business in petrol stations in india also do this.

India should move DC fast charging to min 150KW peak chargers. Cars that offer fast charging should spec at least 80KW of peak charging speed.

We are not thinking about the human factor in charging and how it can stop the EV revolution in India. The so called 'fast' chargers of 25-50KW are going to become a massive problem as number of EVs explodes in India, because these chargers can charge very few cars per day/charge time per car is long.

At peak times, we will start getting serpentine queues with hours-long wait times, and then realise many places don't have enough space to put up 25-30 50KW chargers at one station. 5-8 150KW chargers will provide way better experience, and that is needed to drive consumer adoption.

This is great news!

I wish all the highway charging stations have a good mix of chargers. Something like this would be a great template for future charging stations:

8*30 kW chargers, priced at ₹18/kW (Nexon, Tiago, etc)
4*60 kW chargers, priced at ₹21/kW (MG ZSEV, Hyundai Kona, etc)
4*90 kW chargers, priced at ₹24/kW (BYD Atto 3, etc)
2*150 kW chargers, priced at ₹27/kW (XC40, etc)
2*250 kW chargers, priced at ₹30/kW (Mercedes EQS, BMW i4, Hyundai Ioniq5, Kia EV6)

This would cover all bases, and the differential pricing could also prompt charging discipline, where cars with lower charge speeds would prefer the 30kW/60kW units for cost benefit, and higher rated cars would prefer 90kW/150kW/250kW for time benefit.

Also, those charging from 60-100% usually don’t get full charge speeds, so they could choose a lower rated charger and save on costs.

I’ve kept the highest charge cost at ₹30/kW, which would translate to ₹3-5/km (considering each kW usually gives 6-8 km of range).

Re: Hyundai installs DC fast chargers across key Indian highways

If we are talking about differential pricing, then cost for charging above 90% should be made significantly prohibitive, say 2X the normal cost. Also, there should be waiting (wasting) charges for people who leave the car plugged in after completing the charging. In US and some western countries this is already being implemented by some CPOs.
