Tesla teases an EV hatchback ahead of unveil; new 250-mile range EV under $25,000

According to media reports, Tesla could introduce an all-new hatchback EV at the brand's upcoming 'Investor's Day' event.

The American EV carmaker recently released a promo video for its upcoming investor day event, which showcased sketches of the facelifted Model 3 and Model Y, alongside a side profile view of a hatchback, which has been rumoured to be in the works for quite a while now.

The new Tesla hatchback will be the brand's most affordable model, positioned below the Model 3, making it the entry-level offering in the lineup. Tesla is expected to price the upcoming hatchback EV around $25,000. It is likely to feature a three-door configuration, squats lower to the ground and has smaller proportions when compared to the Model 3.

The new entry-level Tesla is also said to debut the brand's next-generation EV platform, codenamed Generation 3. The new-generation platform will allow Tesla to cut production costs by half, making it viable for the brand to manufacture a mass-market model. The yet-to-be-named Tesla hatchback, once on sale, will directly take on rivals such as the Volkswagen ID.3, Nissan Leaf and Kia e-Niro. It is expected to be powered by a 50 kWh battery pack offering 250 miles (402 km) of range.

Dear Elon,

Where is the "bulletproof" Cybertruck and the Roadster??
I heard some news about Cyberteuck production starting in q4 2022, but I guess Elon is just too busy with Twitter and the paid "blue tick".

Looks 4 door though, and crossover-ish than a hatch from spy shots. For some reason the source article author wonders if the resemblance to CX30 means it is in fact a Mazda but I don't think Mazda would go as far as to copy the Light design on the front and rear as well as the rims from Model Y.

Tesla stock falls more than 5% after hours as Investor Day falls short on specifics.

- No gen-3 vehicle announcement, next gigafactory coming to Mexico.

Yesterday what one saw was one of the worst corporate presentations I have seen. It was boring and painful to sit through.

Tesla needs to come through with the Cyber truck. The time of building hype by just announcing things is long gone.

That’s because it was not supposed to be a corporate presentation with impressive PowerPoints, it was for investors of which Tesla is unique in the sense that in case of Tesla, retail investors have infinitely more wisdom and knowledge about the company than institutional investors.

What they showed was the meat and the potatoes and there were some massive takeaways which would delight you if you were an investor in the company and understood it as well like - detail their plan of how gen 3 platform is going to be 50% cheaper to build than their already optimal Model3/Y platform, a permanent magnet motor which produces 30% more power and more importantly does not use any rare earth metals and costs a $1000 or the dry electrode machine which is already Gen 6 while Gen 7 is already under works etc etc.

If I was a legacy car maker I would be $hitting bricks at the moment. By the way Toyota recently tore down a Model Y and said its a work of art and Tesla is constantly moving the goal posts. Fascinating company.

Re: Tesla teases an EV hatchback ahead of unveil; new 250-mile range EV under $25,000

Their next gen battery and drive train is predicted to cost under 6000$.

Tesla's plan is quiet evident, make a car for 15000$, sell for 30000$ at their own dealerships, while others make their cars for 25000$ and sell for 30000$ sharing profits with dealers.

Sell only very limited models(max 10 models) while rivals have 50 models, when people are bored of your cars and the sales tanks, reduce prices by 5000$ to 7000$ attracting more people, your rivals cannot do the same, profit from each car is still better than the rivals.

They had a very informative presentation, addressed many concerns regarding EVs.

1. There is far more Lithium, Copper and other minerals available for complete EV and battery energy storage needs.

2. The overall mining needed for Electric economy is less than the fossil fuel economy.

3. Their next gen drive train will not use any rare earth magnets.

4. Just by changing the hour of car charging the grid can be balanced with less battery storage, they already launche unlimited 30$ ev charging in Texas.

5. From point 4, entire energy needs can be served by renewables alone.

Re: Tesla teases an EV hatchback ahead of unveil; new 250-mile range EV under $25,000

Specifications of Tesla’s smaller, cheaper electric car teased.

Tesla's new range of small cars could offer close to 500km of driving range, if battery specifications published in a company report are a guide.

Quote:
The US electric-car specialist has previously confirmed a next-generation range of cars smaller than today's Model 3 mid-size sedan, that cost half as much to build thanks to new production processes – but no technical details have been shared.

But details in a new document – the Master Plan 3, the written version of a presentation given to investors last month detailing Tesla's vision for "sustainable energy for all of earth" – may be a teaser of the battery pack planned for the upcoming models.

In a section outlining the future global vehicle fleet, the Tesla report lists a "compact" model smaller than the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y, with a 53kWh battery pack using lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry.

Quote:
The company does not say how much driving range a 53kWh battery pack would translate to in a future Tesla small electric car.

For context, the entry-level, rear-wheel-drive Tesla Model 3 sedan uses a 60kWh LFP battery for 491km of claimed driving range according to European WLTP testing.

Assuming the new small car is more energy efficient – due to its smaller and lighter body, as well as improvements to the electric motor – its 53kWh battery may still be capable of up to 500km on a charge.
