Volkswagen's all-new electric sedan, the ID.7 is all set to make its global debut soon. Now, just months ahead of unveil, the production version of the Volkswagen ID.7 has been spotted testing in Germany.

The electric sedan can be seen without any camouflage, allowing us to get a good glimpse of what to expect. The Volkswagen ID.7 will be offered as a premium luxury offering and will be the brand's 6th fully-electric model, following the ID.3, ID.4, ID.5, ID.6 and ID.Buzz minivan.



The ID.7 sedan was previewed as the ID. AERO in China last year. The electric sedan will be based on Volkswagen's MEB platform and is expected to offer a range of around 700 km (WLTP cycle) on a single charge. The sedan will also feature intelligent features inside along with plenty of connected tech.

The Volkswagen ID.7 is said to have its global debut sometime in the second quarter of 2023. The electric sedan will be first launched in China, before entering the US and European markets.

Looks absolutely stunning! VW's designs are just so classy & so timeless. The ID.7 has heavy shoes to fill as it is the Passat's replacement.

Anyone else agree that this VW naming obsession with "ID" is dumb? ID.3, ID.4, ID.7...why can't they come up with classy new names for their EVs as they've done with the Passat, Tiguan, Virtus, Touareg etc.

Practicality has also clearly played an important role in the development of the ID 7. At 4961mm long, 1862mm wide and 1538mm tall, it’s 186mm longer, 30mm wider and 55mm higher than the current Passat, and its 2966mm wheelbase is a considerable 180mm longer

Volkswagen has developed the ID 7 to support both single-motor, rear-wheel drive and dual-motor, four-wheel drive models.

Lithium ion battery packs with usable capacities of 77kWh and 85kWh feature in the Pro and Pro S models respectively.

Range is yet to be specified, but Volkswagen says the 77kWh battery will give the ID 7 a WLTP range of approximately 382 miles, while the 85kWh unit should give it around 435. By comparison, the 53kWh and 78kWh batteries offered by the Model 3 give official ranges of 305 and 374 miles, while the 53kWh and 77kWh batteries of the Ioniq 6 provide give ranges of 267 and 382.

The biggest drawback for VW group cars and especially VW cars is their Infotainment. I really hope they fix it in this model.

The teaser video started with the door cards, which showed the ID.7's ambient lighting that run across the dashboard. The speaker system was revealed, as well, and they're made by Harman Kardon. The gear selector behind the steering wheel (a la VW ID.4) was also shown, along with the massive infotainment screen that houses a lot of information, such as battery charge, seat ventilation/heating, and navigation, among others. The ID.7's smart air vents, which were first shown at this year's CES, also made an appearance in the teaser.

Those were all shown in the first four seconds, which ended with the sunroof controls, the SOS button, and the accelerator and brake pedals with play and pause icons on them. The rest of the video was just wide shots of the cabin, showing the ID wordmark on the backrests of the light-themed seats.

2025 Volkswagen ID.7 debuts with up to 382-mile range in WLTP test.

It arrives in Europe and China this fall. The electric sedan comes to North America in 2024.

The ID.7 is available in two trims: Pro and Pro S. Both have an electric motor making 282 horsepower (210 kilowatts). The Pro comes with a battery that has an 82-kilowatt-hour gross rating (77-kWh net) that provides an estimated WLTP-cycle range of 382 miles (615 kilometers). The system supports 170-kW DC charging.

The Pro S gets a pack with a 91-kWh gross capacity (86-kWh net) that offers an estimated 435 miles (700 km) of driving distance. The DC charging capacity is 200 kW.

The ID.7 is 195.3 inches (4,961 millimeters) long and has a 116.8-inch (2,966-mm) wheelbase. These figures are comparable to a Mercedes-Benz EQE electric sedan that is 196.9 inches long with a 122.8-inch wheelbase. Without counting the exterior mirrors, the VW is 73.31 inches (1,862 mm) wide. The body's drag coefficient is as low as 0.23, depending on the equipment a buyer chooses.

Inside, the ID.7 comes standard with an augmented reality head-up display. The technology lets the designers fit a simplified instrument cluster that only shows the legally necessary info like the vehicle speed and various warnings.

The augmented reality system makes information appear to be different distances away from the driver. For example, the speed appears to be close, but the turn arrows seem to be farther away. The info on display can include things like road lane markings, distance info, and speed limit. Controls on the steering wheel allow for adjusting the info on the HUD to what the driver wants to see.

This guy's reviews are a hit or a miss, and a bit too quirky for my taste. However he does get his hands on new German cars faster than most others.

Coming to the car, it looks oh so classy. Seems to get most other things right too. Hope this thing brings some love back to mainstream sedans internationally.

Volkswagen has taken the wraps off the all-new ID.7, the brand's latest flagship electric sedan.



The new Volkswagen ID.7 will be available in 2 trim options: Pro & Pro S. The base variant gets a 77 kWh battery pack, offering 615 km of driving range on the WLTP cycle and supports 170 kW DC charging. The Pro S variant comes with a larger 86 kWh battery pack with 700 km of range (WLTP-cycle) and is compatible with a 200 kW DC fast charger. Both trims though get the same power output of 282 BHP.



The Volkswagen ID.7 measures 4,961 mm in length and has a wheelbase of 2,966 mm. The EV also offers a low drag coefficient of 0.23. In terms of design, the car gets a conventional three-box body style with sleek LED headlamps up front, an LED strip with the VW logo at its centre and air intakes on the front bumper. The side profile is characterised by the prominent shoulder line and the large alloy wheels. The rear comes with a full-width LED light bar, a fastback-style sloping roofline and a dual-tone rear bumper.



Inside, the Volkswagen ID.7 gets a massive 15.0-inch central infotainment screen, an augmented head-up display, a smart panoramic sunroof, and 14-way power-adjustable seats with a massage function. The car also gets other tech features like voice assistant, adaptive cruise control and lane change assist, among plenty others.



The Volkswagen ID.7 will go on sale in Europe and China sometime later this year, before entering other international markets. Production will commence during the second half of this year, with the car being manufactured at the brand's plant in Germany. Volkswagen is yet to announce the pricing for its flagship electric sedan.

It looks pretty good and the interiors have a whiff of Model 3 in there was well but what I do not understand is how can a grounds up EV in todays day and age does not have a frunk. Surely it can be that hard. Model 3 itself is now 6 years old. What other compromises were made that we can see behind all that is shiny and new?
