The Kia EV6 was launched in June last year. Since then, the company has sold 432 units of the electric crossover in India. The final deliveries turned out to be more than four times what the carmaker had planned for the Indian market.

The Kia EV6 is based on the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). It is powered by a permanent magnet synchronous motor and a 77.4 kWh lithium-ion battery pack that is said to offer a maximum range of 528 km (WLTP cycle). The battery supports ultra-fast charging, which adds 100 km of range in 4.5 minutes.

In India, the EV6 is offered in single-motor and dual-motor variants. The single-motor RWD variant packs 226 BHP and 350 Nm, while the AWD version produces 321 BHP and 605 Nm.

The Kia EV6 is available in two variants: GT Line and GT Line AWD priced at Rs 60.95 lakh and Rs 65.95 lakh (ex-showroom), respectively.

So for ~1.5x power and almost whooping 2x torque more, you only pay just about 1.1x more?!!! If this were an ICE there's no way this would have been possible. How is Kia managing this? Is it the single motor variant that's grossly overpriced or is the dual motor incredibly well priced?

I think it is the classic decoy effect at play here. Someone spending 60L on a car wouldn't mind paying a few more. This is why we see so many brands who's option list can sometimes cost more than car itself (Porsche)

By placing the RWD variant dangerously close to the AWD GT, they are making the GT look like a steal. At the time I got my current phone, the 64GB variant 128GB variant price difference was just 6k (iPhone 12)

Same applies here, if one is already spending that much, they wouldn't mind a BIT more for MUCH more

Compared to what they’re priced at in the US or UK, we’re paying more for less here. Of course, our CBU taxes account for a lot of that.

For reference, the GT-Line RWD is essentially the Wind RWD in the US, at $50,000 (approx. ₹41 lakhs), and the GT-Line AWD is the Wind AWD with the tech package added on, which is approx. $55,500 (approx. ₹45 lakhs).

Kia is no angel, they’re definitely making fatter margins on these over here. Hence why delivery times are 3 months or so in India, and a year or so in the US or UK.

Hyundai has shown what the pricing can be like if it’s locally assembled. The Ioniq 5 is the same drivetrain as the Wind RWD at 60 lakhs. That price gulf tells you Kia is making a killing, but that’s capitalism at work for you.

Or Socialism , depends on how you look at it, because the ridiculous taxes and duties in India are part of the ex-showroom (and on-road) price!
