Meanwhile, Can someone with experience of using either of these cars explain how they stop the car and just move out i.e. by putting it in neutral or wait for a few seconds when the Parking break is engaged, if the latter is the case then what is the point of not having the start stop button if a button (i.e. Parking break) has to be pressed?
What switches off the car is driver door open and getting off the seat. If you don’t get off, opening the door would not switch the car off. Parking mode is good if you are not on one pedal drive and want to stay at a place on a traffic signal without having a foot on the brakes.

Personally, I am also stuck with XC40 vs C40 question. And one factor of a missing sunshade on the C40 moon roof worries me. On a hot bright day, how is your experience with the tinted glass only roof?

If one double taps the brake then it gets into the hold mode, which is helpful. As for the moon roof, it's too early for me to judge. Let me experience it slightly more and I'll come back on this.

Re: Volvo C40 Recharge Review

Just spotted a white C40 (had a roof rack luggage carrier so might not be a local one) exiting the chandranagar fly over (https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=17/10.77404/76.69752) going towards Coimbatore. Looks stunning lucky the driver.

Congratulations. Walking in your footsteps. Please share photos when you can. That Fjord Blue is a delightful soothing colour.

Very true. It is a clean sheet of paper EV design

So your statement that the motors are the same is not correct. "As for the AWD models, Volvo replaced the two 150kW electric motors on both axles with an in-house 183kW e-motor on the rear axle and a new 117 kW e-motor on the front axle."
Very true.

On a 50 KW charger, the XC40 will need to stop for roughly 60 minutes to add 52 kWh of power to cover the additional 220 KMs needed to reach a destination 550 KMs away. For the C40 recharge, it will be roughly 35 mins.
So just a 23% improvement in efficiency can mean you cutting down your charging stop duration by half. It is not intuitive but plays out in the real world. Today, the most prevalent chargers are 24 or 30 KW on our highways which further exacerbate the delta between the two cars.
Thanks for this input.

I booked the Volvo C40 today. Sage Green colour. Will start an ownership thread after I've completed 1000 kms.

Pros:
Safety
Excellent engineering & design
Useful ground clearance
Performance, performance, performance
If faults are expected to come up in EVs in the first ten years I hope/expect Volvo's engineering excellence will protect its users.
Exterior looks to die for
Outstanding interiors - it looks and feels premium.
Volvo's outstanding A.S.S.
Clean sheet of paper EV design

Cons:
Cramped rear seat - relatively speaking compared with other 4.4 metre cars
Spare tyre sits on the dickey floor
Firm ride - could be a hassle in the city
Poor rear view

Re: Volvo C40 Recharge Review

I just checked the Volvo App on my phone to see that the name of the car by default shows as 2024 C40. The App was linked to the car during delivery.

That said, can someone explain if these nomenclature are similar to global nomenclature? I tried asking the version of the car and other details from the Dealership but it seemed I had more knowledge about the versions than them hence stopped bothering with the discussion.

Congrats. Lovely car indeed

It is a slick design for sure, but not clean sheet, as it is based on the current XC40 and its CMA platform.

As it does not have an ICE cousin, this could be interpreted as C40 using a skateboard, but that’s not the case.

The next generation of Volvos (EX30, EX90) use a ground up EV skateboard platform.

Nevertheless, if we consider the various pros and cons, the C40 is still a great car

Re: Volvo C40 Recharge Review

Looks like Volvo increased prices by 1.7L. I'm seeing new bookings show car price as 62.95L now vs 61.25L at launch.

Re: Volvo C40 Recharge Review

Driving impressions:

PRO's

1. Shattering performance will leave BMW 330i's for dead and give M340i's a hard time when you play catch-me-if-you-can with them.

2. 40 bhp and 160 NM of torque more than a M340i @ 25% lower price gives you tremendous Value and Performance for your money from a performance enthusiast perspective.

3. Add to this there are Zero Fuel bills, Low Service Costs, Low Maintenance Costs while the BMW 330i & 340i owners break a bank or two to keep their cars on the road.

4. A SLEEPER to beat all sleepers!! You can laugh at the rear air diffusers, front spoilers and the M badge when you fly past the 340i caught out with its turbo lag in what is a rather ordinary looking car for the performance on tap.

5. Have driven Lamborghini's, RS7's, AMG 63S's, Porsche Carrera's, Audi Q8 etron, but the G Force on this car beats all of them. In fact the acceleration can catch you out if try flooring it in the city.

6. Volvo has given the car good enough handling for the power on tap. You are aware of it's SUV proportions though and it's not as good as a sedan.

CON's:

1. Top speed of 180 kmph is pretty lame for the performance on tap. To put things in perspective it's like having a Top speed of 80 kmph in a Maruti Swift. Just when the fun starts the party is over. Performance of this sort in an ICE car would have had a Top whack in the region of 270-300 kmph.

2. Lack of gears spoils the fun. Engine braking and paddle shifts would have greatly increased the fun factor on this car.

3. At high speeds the brakes need to be applied quite forcefully to bring down the speed. While that is common in most performance cars, this needed a bit more effort.

4. A sleeper to a fault! A bit too Plain Jane and almost stodgy looks for the performance on offer. Other than the spoiler at the rear, you really wish the car had a bit more indications of it's power and performance externally.

5. The rear seats are good to seat your enemies. A step motherly treatment in comparison to the seats at the front. Lack of cushioning, poor back support, awkward seating angle make things quite uncomfortable. This is apparent when you move from the front seat to the rear.

Re: Volvo C40 Recharge Review

So, can anyone simplify the differences between the XC40 and the C40 other than the range and powertrain differences?

Any difference on safety features like the rear cross traffic collision warning, blind spot warning, 360 camera etc?

How is the top speed limit a con? Is it marketed as a track car? 180 kmph is already way past legal limits on public roads.

Congratulations @Narayan on an excellent choice! You will own one of the fastest cars on team bhp. (not sure whether that is a box you wanted ticked) That damn thing will overtake anything and everything on the road.

I had driven the Audi Q8 e-tron - actually was disappointed with that experience. The car felt heavy and the motor felt like it had its work cut out. Relatively sluggish in comparison.

The brutal acceleration on this car gives one a completely different perception about Volvo.

Happy Motoring and look forward to your ownership thread!

It is a con relatively speaking. When one mentions the other specs and then says a top speed of 180 kmh, that is surprising.
When my neighbour picked up the XC40 Recharge, he was shooting out the specs to me and when he said 180 limited top speed, I was surprised but then thought it must be because it is an electric.

It is not necessarily to prove that top speed. So yes, it is a con in that sense especially when rest of the specs is comparable to a performance car.

Actually no. All Volvo cars including their ICE cars are limited to 180 kmph. Volvo took a decison to limit the top speed of all their cars to 180kmph a few years ago in the interests of promoting the safety quotient associated with the brand. Polestars are an exception and has been spun off as a separate company.

My reference was to having a high performance car with this limit.
