Chau is a Vietnamese politician and educator. He has been the ambassador of Vietnam to India, Nepal and Bhutan and has played a vital role in strengthening the bilateral ties between India and Vietnam.

VinFast plans to enter the Indian EV market in 2024. It has set up its India headquarters in Gurgaon and is in the process of hiring people in key operational roles. Earlier, the company appointed former Kia India sales head Ashwin Patil as its Vice President and Director.

Initially, VinFast plans to import two models via the CBU route. However, the company is also looking to start local manufacturing and is reportedly in talks with Ford to acquire the latter’s Chennai factory.

Re: VinFast appoints Pham Sanh Chau as its India CEO

VinFast seems to be trying to utilize the proposed Govt EV policy on tax cuts on EV Imports.

As per the news and Team-BHP update:
"The government is reportedly working on an EV policy designed to enable global car manufacturers to import electric vehicles at reduced duty rates, provided they commit to eventually start the manufacturing process in India."

The policy is believed to lure Tesla, but some aspiring EV makers will find this deal lucrative.

Tesla is still sitting on the fence as Tesla's net income slumped by 44 percent in the third quarter of this year as compared to the same time last year.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk stated that he would wait for economic stability before stepping up the company's planned production in Mexico.
