Hyundai & Kia EVs charge the fastest, better than Mercedes-Benz & Tesla: Edmunds

According to a new study, electric vehicles from Hyundai & Kia charge the fastest, with the Hyundai Ioniq 6 RWD topping the list, closely followed by the Kia EV6 RWD in second.

The study considers 43 different battery-powered cars, with their recharge rate measured in terms of miles per hour - more miles gained per hour translates to less time spent at the charging station. Reportedly, the calculation for miles/hour was carried out by dividing the average charging power (kW) with Edmunds tested consumption figure (kWh). This number is then multiplied by 100 to get the miles/hour figure.

The results showcased the Ioniq 6 having an impressive charging rate of 868 miles/hour, while Kia's EV6 RWD in second had a charging rate of 769 miles/hour. The Hyundai Ioniq 6 AWD (dual-motor) version came in third with a charging rate of 764 miles/hour. The 2020 Porsche Taycan 4S and the 2022 Kia EV6 GT Line came in 4th and 5th, respectively.

The surprise in the study was Tesla, whose fastest-charging EV was the 2023 Model 3 Long Range 569 miles/hour in the 10th position, while the 2021 Model Y Long Range was the second fastest-charging Tesla, positioned at 14th place in the list.

Similarly, the fastest-charging Mercedes-Benz is the 2022 EQS 450+. The EV is positioned in 7th place and has a charging rate of 593 miles/hour. The fastest-charging BMW is the 2024 i5 eDrive40 with a charging rate of 477 miles/hour - positioned in 20th place.

Won't time taken to charge 0-80% be better statistics?
