Right brand for India, but wrong dealership.
Hope it doesn't turn out like the Fiats sold out of TAMO dealerships.

Re: Rumour: Stellantis may launch Leapmotor EVs in India

So the Leapmotor C10 70 kWh has launched in Nepal at a price similar to what the BYD Atto 3 60 kWh sells for over there. Will this hold true for India? This car is in a different league to the Atto 3.

- about as long and wide as an XUV700 and about as tall as an Alcazar

- interior looks insanely premium for the money. No plastics or buttons in sight, just loads of art leather and a really high end 14.6” touchscreen

- European suspension tune courtesy Stellantis

- 230 hp RWD and 190 mm GC, almost an SUV equivalent to the Seal

- selling very well in China

Except the rhino horn this car has everything going for it, this is the Chinese eSUV we need. The tech and safety is top notch better even compared to the Tesla.

This is embarrassing but I immediately panicked thinking this car might have some actual ivory inlay before I realised you meant the ADAS bump on the top of the windscreen.

Now I've noticed that bump, I can't unsee the resemblance to the classic hackney carriage:

Nepal has super high taxation does it not? (I'm unfamiliar with pricing regimes there) I guess I share the same question as Vikram9193 - where would this Leapmotor slot in in the Indian market?

Stellantis to launch Leapmotor electric vehicle brand in India

Stellantis has announced that it plans to launch the Leapmotor EV brand in India.

Shailesh Hazela, CEO and MD, Stellantis India, said, "We’re excited to announce the entry of the Leapmotor brand in India, thereby strengthening our commitment to the market. We already have a strong presence in India with our Jeep and Citroën brands, and we deeply understand the strategic importance and immense potential that the Indian market holds.”

Leapmotor International is a joint venture between Stellantis and China-based Leapmotor. The company’s product portfolio includes two SUVs – the C10 and B10, and the T03 small car. In 2024, the company delivered nearly 300,000 vehicles, doubling its year-over-year growth.

It's unclear which of these products will make their way into the Indian market. That being said, Hazela did reveal that the company plans to bring premium EVs.

Hazela said, "We look forward to bringing premium EVs to India's upwardly mobile consumers—vehicles that redefine modern driving with cutting-edge technology, comfort, and sustainability."

Re: Rumour: Stellantis may launch Leapmotor EVs in India

Can they simply try to stick to just one brand and work all hands on deck w.r.t. expanding its footprint and strengthening its foundation in the country? Peugeot, Fiat, Opel, Jeep, Citroen, Abarth all have common ways in India with mostly dud products or pulled out of the market after a not so long run.

Re: Rumour: Stellantis may launch Leapmotor EVs in India

The products were never dud in my honest opinion. It's just their marketing & weird strategy to not build on any of the legacies their brands have created is letting them down big time. To put it in simple words, they're throwing money but are they throwing them in the right bag or just in a bottomless pit?

I am dumbfounded once again! Not sure, being a Jeep owner myself, what to make of this. Should I be delighted about the Stellantis's India decisions? "Strong presence" where? When I last checked the combined market share didn't even cross 1%.

We have 2 brands which are struggling and need more attention, Jeep on one hand is missing from the core SUV segments (sub-4m and Creta segment) while Citroen even though present, they missed the customers initial goodwill as they launched bare-bones products and the market punished them. They need to resurrect Citroen now instead of launching another brand that too electric one, where the market share isn't increasing as expected.

What they need is 1) a premium, well-built 4.2m Jeep petrol SUV without the AWD tech priced to directly compete with the Koreans 2) Citroen SUV loaded to the gills with features and goodies which undercuts the market leader Creta in terms of pricing by a good margin, if they want to make a dent.

Instead of a new brand like Leap Motors, they should launch the cars as either under Peugeot or Citroën brands. Leap Motors will not evoque a positive response in my opinion.

I think Stellantis doesn't own more than 10% in Leap Motors.

Re: Rumour: Stellantis may launch Leapmotor EVs in India

I am telling you-History will repeat again. You may find this post inappropriate but I have to say it. Let me predict what will happen.

Day 1: Leapmotor launched in India, excitement, buzz, nice product, so much media coverage.

Day 10: Media drive begins, QC problems, and lack of proper dealership network.

Day 30: Delivery begins

Day 90: Leapmotor India CEO bashing Indian car market, 'Even after having TEN dealership in India ALONE, and one ENTIRE Ad, we are still not getting much recognition, Indian customers ignoring fundamental build of a car for features'.

Day 150: Leapmotor partners with fleet company for their EVs.

Day 200: The EV fleet plan became a fail. Leepmotors partners with a well-known celebrity to enhance their brand. A *celebrity name* edition launches.

Day 365: Leapmotor India became lethargic

Day 1825: No new products for a long time. The Thousandth special edition has just launched. Enjoy the new accessories and stickers! We have massive brand heritage, ego, blah, blah

Day 3650: Announcement: Leapmotor shut down its Indian operations over cost effectiveness program, Indian market ignorance to great car, blah, blah

This company has a history of blunders. Their products may have turned out to be good, but lack of long-term focus has killed it. These guys need a product with an entirely thought out USP. Something totally new and radical.

Re: Rumour: Stellantis may launch Leapmotor EVs in India

Stellantis doesn't have a strong presence in India, neither with Jeep nor with Citroen. Now, they plan to launch a car brand that is unknown to Indian buyers, and that too in the premium space. Good luck with that.

Stellantis might do this, but Leapmotors probably won't. They aren't the same company and Chinese companies like MG have been quite aggressive until now. Leapmotors will also benefit from partnering with a company already established in India unlike BYD.

I welcome more competition and especially from the Chinese who are the world leaders in EVs. I hope they manufacture here instead of just assembling.

MG has already shown what playbook is likely to work in India. Stellantis should take some inspiration from that. Leap Motors has EV and EREV vehicles in their portfolio, including right hand drive ones for export.

Leap Motors will only handle Chinese market directly as it is a majority stake holder there. Stellantis owns just 20% stake in the company. But the export market is a different story. It's completely handled by Stellantis as the JV is 51:49 with Leap as a minority stake holder. So Leap Motors doesn't take the call for export market.
