Ford India expanding its EV software development business Ford announced its exit from the Indian market in 2021. While manufacturing operations have ceased, the company’s software development arm is on an expansion spree.
Ford Business Solutions currently employs 12,000 people at its Chennai facility and plans to hire another 3,000 employees in the next 2-3 years. The team will develop applications for Ford’s global EV platforms.
Mike Amend, Chief Enterprise Tech Officer at Ford Motor Company, said, “We’re building and designing new manufacturing lines for electric vehicles in Chennai which will use VR/AR to model and simulate assembly line flow, and this is being done for our new EV platform manufacturing.”
“We are investing in EV-related capabilities, artificial intelligence and machine learning solutions, customer relationship management, digital commerce, data analytics, cyber security solutions and general software development,” Amend added.
Ford has invested around $250 million in its Chennai centre in the last 5 years. Amend said that the company will continue to invest in cloud engineering, software reliability engineering, development engineering and building advanced platform capabilities in Chennai.
Ford is also working on a cloud-based commerce platform which will enable customers to interact with dealers for parts, accessories, merchandise, etc.
