It's quite possible that MG Motor may price the Windsor EV quite aggressively.
This may positively impact the IC engine car buyers looking for an automatic vehicle as there would be more options.
This could create the 'Maruti moment' which Sajjan Jindal is looking for.

I'm more inclined to believe the 12.5-15.5 range that V3 cars predicts. Makes sense, as the battery capacity-wise they will be competing with Punch.ev LR and Nexon.ev MR. |
Expect this vehicle starts from 19-21 ex if ZS EV is 19 ex and upto 24 ex, Windsor will easily start from 19L, this may possibly end up like Byd E6 which is less bought by private buyers though this provides good blade battery.
Currently being offered only with a 38kWh battery pack!!
Introductory price of 9.99 lakh. Lifetime warranty for the battery is a great move but what exactly does it cover? What is the Rs 3.5/km rental cost? Need to read the fine print.

is that the price of base variant? there are 3 variants. With BaaS (Batter As A Service) no wonder they have done away with the larger battery. Interesting concept, but won't help given the 331 km claimed range.
3-3-3 is nothing new.
3-60 is also nothing new.
BaaS is definitely new, espescailly with 1st year free-charging*
So we are looking at about 11.5L on road for base trim with ~ 4.5-5 Rs/km as running cost going by whatever's mentioned in the launch event.
MG Windsor EV launched at ₹9.99L.
• Battery rental ₹3.5/km
• 38kWh battery : 331 km of claimed range.
• Lifetime Battery warranty for 1st owner.
• 1st year free Public Charging.
• Buyback offer of 60% after 3 years.
• Test Drives commence on 25th September.
• Bookings will open on 3rd October i.e, the first day of Navratri and deliveries begin on Dusshera.
Will Tata reduce the price their EVs even more?

As per the live event, there is no choice of buying the car outright. Only offering battery as a service without a normal option is a very bad move. It never worked well anywhere in the world. Hopefully, they will announce prices for the car including battery as well soon.
At Rs 10 lakhs, without battery and just 5% GST on EVs, margins on this must be highest for any 10L car. But I doubt if they will make any on this car in the first place due to poor sales. What a mess of a launch.
Three variants and four color options.
Need to await details about battery rental. Should have offered battery out right purchase option IMHO.

Why do you say it has not worked well anywhere in the world? what are we missing?
Introductory price of 9.9 lacs for the car without battery. Battery usage charge of 3.5Rs/KM as rental.
Imho very confusing for average users.
With a monthly running of 1000 Kms along with electricity charge one can expect a bill of 5000 to 6000 a month. Mostly GST Extra. Makes sense for self employed and company owned vehicles as they get to enjoy depreciation benefits + travel expenses can be reported as company expense.
Edit:- On second thoughts a very bad move. People buy EVs to save on fuel costs. 3.5 Rs/Km Rental + 2 Rs /Km electric costs rounds up to 6 rs/Km which makes Windsor EV as expensive to run as any other ICE vehicle and with ICE you get to keep ownership of the fuel tank.
:D
MG Windsor launched at an introductory price of Rs. 9.99 lakh* + Rs. 3.5 per km of Battery as a service (BaaS)*. The battery size is 38 KW.
Some of the launch offers
1. Free public charging via MG eHub for 1 year*
2. Unlimited warranty on battery for first owner*
2. 3-60 Assured buyback*
There are a lot of * (stars) in the site. The fine print will have to be read.

Agree on this. I think they are trying to do too much in one go. Should ideally be optional. It will be interesting how will they collect the rental. What if someone doesn’t pay. Recovering money is not an easy job, even banks struggle and have specialised teams for collections. They are getting themselves into something which is not meant for a car company to manage.
Hmm, he did say Windsor is exclusively available as a Battery-as-a-service product. Will that mean no option to purchase the battery outright? Will probably get more clarity in coming days. While the initial sticker price is attractive, wonder what happens to the total cost of ownership, and the need to be locked into a never ending debt/subscription plan. So many questions, so few answers.
Yeah agreed, I have so many questions right now looking at the launch
Hi, my assumption is:
Base trim ex showroom - 9.99 lacs
Advance rental for battery for 3 years & 36000km @Rs.3.5 per km = Rs.1,26,000/-
Total to pay without insurance & other charges = Rs.9.99 lacs + Rs.1.26 lacs = 11.25 lacs
After 3 years (& driven 36000km or less in 3 years) customer can decide whether she/he want to return the car to MG at 60% value i.e. for Rs.5.99 lacs or continue to run the car at Rs.3.5 per km as battery rental.
In case customer want to keep the EV, she/he will have to pay additional Rs.1.26 lacs in advance for next 3 years & 36000km.
While this is my assumption, I hope more details will come in coming hours / days regarding battery rental.
