Re: Team-BHPians and their Pets

The kitten needs immediate vet attention, milk every two hours in a syringe and also their anus has to be stimulated with a warm wet cloth so that they can potty.

Every hour unfortunately is vital. It will not survive till the weekend on its own. I cannot stress this enough.

If you cannot go to the vet kindly send in an animal ambulance. Facilities in your location are quite good. Willing to donate for medical and sundry costs.

Hoping against hope. Please text Mehul for advice in parallel while you go to the vet. He is coolmel on here and based out of Mumbai and does cat rescues and his WhatsApp is +91 70217 42633

Please do not give normal packed milk. They cannot handle it. Consult a vet as to what you can feed it. Human milk formula available at pharmacies may work. Keep the kitten on a soft blanket and well-ventilated place.

Hope the kitten pulls through this tough time.

Thanks, when I saw the kitten probably the age was in hours. Yeah surely dry food won't work. I was looking for some out of box ideas to feed such a little kitten, as never dealt them before.

Lets see how next few days pass by, fingers crossed !! Surprised to see that the mother abandons the litter, so very un-natural or is that common
The best course of action would be to locate a lactating female kitty close by, and entrust the kitten in her care.

Of course, subject to availability.

Tiny feeding bottles are available at most pet stores. You can administer Ventipro formula milk to the kitten, if the lactating kitty option doesn't work out.

Don't forget neopeptin drops (available at any pharmacy)

This whole info is very vital.. i was about to write the same about potty and urination.

Kittens only release potty and urine when their mother licks their anus area, hence everything stays clean till the kittens only drinks mothers milk. So orphan kittens which cannot walk should be relieved whenever they start screaming and wriggling and not taking any milk by the way mentioned above.

(Mods: though most of the info is repeated, it is very important hence repeating.)
Thank you.

Re: Team-BHPians and their Pets

Update - The little one could not pull off the struggle of life and succumbed to his/her miseries after a struggle of almost a week. I never thought I could get attached to a cat and that too in a week's time. I guess she was so small that I tried my best to give her life, which I wasn't able to. I don't know who will use this lactose free milk now, a small bed and small feeding bottles which I got for her

I took her to the vet the same day and he just checked and asked me to keep her warm and keep feeding her lactose free milk + water, in luke warm condition. Which we did for last one week, I was getting optimistic as every hour passed by that she will pull through somehow. Even kept an IR bulb in her cage to keep her warm at night.

I thought of this, as we have around 10 cats out of our house. I tried to keep her there, but then gave up, because I was a bit apprehensive that they might attack her and it was quite cold during nights.

Yes, that's what the vet told us to do when ever she keeps on meowing to relieve her.

The only worst thing of having a pet is, you will lose them one day when they will cross the rainbow bridge. This little guy didn't even open the eyes for one week and want to see how cruel the world is.

This picture I took when she was sleeping in my palms.

Simba poses for us once in a while.
Beautiful, expressive, mesmerising and loving eyes.
I just cannot imagine life without having a pet dog near me. And specifically, an ‘Indie’ dog.

Very sad to hear this: I'm quite surprised that you got past the first day, and I salute your efforts and your kindness.

Re: Team-BHPians and their Pets

Thanks NomadSK for trying and giving the kitten a chance at life. It is a shame that it probably suffered and had to go. Innocent souls don't deserve bad endings.

Re: Team-BHPians and their Pets

@NomadSK, you gave the little one a chance to survive, not many do that.

You can't save them all but you can damn well try and save a few.

I am so sorry to hear that.
You gave your best and did what you could in your capacity. Make peace with that. Many times, despite our best effort, the outcome will not be in our favor.

May the kitten RIP. And may the Almighty bless you for your kindness.

The Lord giveth and He taketh away. You did what was humanly possible and gave the little one a fighting chance which is denied to many. Kudos to your efforts

Re: Team-BHPians and their Pets

I'm trying to teach my 6 month old indoor/outdoor kitten to use a litterbox. She doesn't seem to get the idea:

Team-BHPians and their Pets-20250317_174055.jpg

I'm trying to keep her indoors because there is a romeo Tomcat hanging around outside, trying to get friendly with her. She screams NO but the Tomcat just doesn't get the message. I've already chased him with a broom a couple of times.

Vet recommended spaying only after a couple of months, since she has not achieved sexual maturity yet.

Re: Team-BHPians and their Pets

There will always be other cats, especially toms, aggressive, romantic, or sometimes just trying to be friendly. There are also young toms that haven't learnt about the right and wrong timed for mating.

A vet told me that if they try to spay too early, the uterus is not at all developed, and may be so small that they might not even be able to find it.Everything is a whole lot simpler with the boys (a lesson that most human males need to learn: they can go straight back to work, but the ladies can't)

Your post reminded me of Tom trying to impress Toodles in Tom and Jerry cartoons

That said my adopted guy didn't need any teaching. He just started using he litter box just like that.

Most cats / kittens learn to do it by default; it's no big deal for them. But if they get the option to go out; most prefer that over the litter box.

@SmartCat - clearly your cat prefers the outdoors over the litter box. One of my cats was comfortable using the litter box for the first two years. Then she was shifted to my parents' house where she got access to the garden. Since then she's always gone out to do the "job". Even if doors/windows are locked, she'll demand to be let out.
