A laptop while needed is not a necessity. A person can do without one. I didnt have laptop until half my course was done.


I prefer a desktop if a max two people are staying or you are living alone.

Otherwise go for a laptop. Btw in US you can also get a laptop for $500 which will do all your basic tasks.

Instead i would recommend you to go for a gaming desktop with top end components and a basic notebook with a mobile cpu.
A $1800 desktop with nvidia geforce 7800 256mb/ati x1900
amd athlon fx-60


A laptop with amd turion or centrino duo for $800-$1000

you can have both from alienware and maybe they will throw in their excellent mp3 player for free.
