‎/* Author: Dennis Ritchie */
#include <stdio.h>
void main()
{
printf("Goodbye World!");
}

A guy from my office, gave this code snippet. I think its perfect.

To many who may not get it immediately - though that would be blasphemous. These images should bring back memories..

Oh my God.
He also gone?

You came, quietly changed the world.
And left behind impossibly large shoes to fill.

The father of 'C' is no more. What a sad day!!!

Re: So Long Dennis Ritchie, will C you when we get there

Whoa... this is sad news.

Unix gave me my second career. I taught myself, and man pages were resource number one. I always loved its methods and its philosophy, not to mention its straightforward and technically accurate documentation. This was computing, not marketing.

I wonder how many of those who are proclaiming the sainthood of Mr J will ever hear of Ritchie, and realise that the current Mac OS is down to him.

The true innovators pass unnoticed.

RIP Sir !!

This is a very sad news. The man who pioneered programming is no more. The past one week has seen the sad demise of Steve Jobs, Jagjit Singh and now Dennis Ritchie. May their soul rest in peace.

Re: So Long Dennis Ritchie, will C you when we get there

Some of his quotes that I always have written somewhere:

UNIX is basically a simple operating system, but you have to be a genius to understand the simplicity.

C is quirky, flawed, and an enormous success.

When I read commentary about suggestions for where C should go, I often think back and give thanks that it wasn't developed under the advice of a worldwide crowd.

RIP sir.

Jobs and Zuckerberg couldn't have built a damn thing without the foundation you helped build.
