3) Should be below 10K
4) Can be Canon Sony Nikon Fuji Panasonic in any preference or any other reliable Brand
5) should be using AA batteries - those rechargeable ones.
6) Easy storage / download. .
SD is a lot cheaper.
do you have a size constraint?

I would look at the Fuji E500 as it has a 28mm lens which is realy useful with group photos. with 4MP you can print out good 6x8s too. it has a 3x zoom (28-90mm) too.

OR

the Panasonic LZ1. while it does not have a 28mm lens it zoom to 200mm (6x from 35mm) which is partly useful on hikes. Besides it has IS which can be useful in low light and/or if you are in motion (like on a sail boat).

both cameras are pcoketable at about 8 oz. (less than a can of coke).

then look no further than Canon S3 IS; or even S2 IS, it'll be a lot cheaper now after S3's release.

I have the S3.

I wanted particular features that the S3 had that the S2 didnt.
If i wasn't concerned about those particular features, like most users i would just buy the S2 and save a bit of cash! I suggest you do the same.

As one become a better photographer, you learn to reduce all kind of movement of camera, mount it on a tripod, use a remote release, etc. Hanging upside down from a branch would be retrograde step.

Using my Nokia 6600 as a cam always till now. Now that my sis's marriage is just weeks away, I was thinkin of buying a Digicam, my budget is 10-15k max. I dont want video but I want high crisp clarity , I guess only 5 MP is available in this range and a much higher Optical zoom. well basically let all the gurus do the talkin, I basically require Very very good quality and a nice User interface, must be sleek and luk stunning - build quality terms, and yeah I forgot SD card support and USB connectivity (any or both). So which one?

And my Dad will be flying down from Kuwait so I can tell him to get really nice ones from there but I am very much scared about Custom taxes, they will charge a lot, especially if they know that it is brand new Thats y I decided to buy in India itself.

And I heard that a Video Cam can be got at around 25k??? are they good? Maybe I can buy that instead of this, throw some light on video cams too plz.

Indian price would be 20K+ atleast. If your only choice is buying from India, I suggest sony as they offer 2 years interest free EMI. They say they charge processing fee but if you negotiate they offer to waive that off and you can get a couple of thousands discount also.
They also come with a 3 years warranty. I think Sony H5(or is it H2) fits the bill as far as your requirements of zoom(10-12X) and stabilization are concerned.
