I solved the problem in another way. 100mm macro or 70-200 F4 IS almost all the time on the DSLR and a Nex-3N with 16-50 for most wide angles. 10-22 usage when really some specific wide angle is needed. Nex works like a nice point and shoot. (Agreed its a 2 body solution, but works very well as the footprint for the second body is quite small).

Today when I travel I just use the 17-55 that where most of my working range is except in cases like the Delhi F1 (see my thread for samples) where the 70-300 did the work.

POV as a wildlife shooter: it is just not worth it to use a TC with a 55-300mm or even a 70-300mm. Apart from AF, image quality will be significantly degraded. Workaround: sell D3100 and buy a 24MP camera e.g. D3200 that will allow you to crop.

Long primes are expensive. The 300mm f/4 is the cheapest but still rather expensive compared to a 55-300mm. And while primes are perfect for birding, a telezoom gives a lot of flexibility when shooting animals.

Btw there are some very nice 3rd part lenses from Sigma and even Tamron with fantastic optical performance. Problem is the QC is still not all that good - one could get stuck with a lemon.

Any suggestions on lens / sensor cleaners available in market ? Dust bunnies are having a field time on all my pics. I saw few cleaning kit with good reviews, but not sure of their availability in India.

After much deliberation and researching over 2 months I am going to purchase Sigma 70 200 F2.8 EX DG Macro HSM II. This is fantastic lens with price point of view and compared to high priced same spec Canon 70 - 200 F2.8. Obviously, this cannot match the complete quality of Canon( It is nearby), but for my application it is more than sufficient. Also, this is is non OS (Optical Stabilizer) lens and with OS same lens is costing $350 more. I am getting this lens for the price of ~$650.

My immediate requirement is to take high quality portraits of immediate family & extended family members. Until now, I am doing this with Nifty Fifty (Canon 50 mm F1.8). Obviously it will be used for other purpose. This lens will be used on Canon 650D Camera body. I would share result of this lens here, once it reaches to me.

The following are my kit on the camera bag (primary video production), and looking for suggestion on choosing my next lens.

Canon 5D Mark II
Canon EF 17-40mm L F/4
Canon EF 300mm L IS F/4
Canon EF 85mm L F/1.2 II
Canon EF 24-105mm L IS F/4

Now, I'm looking to buy faster 50mm or ultrawide fisheye lens. Hence here are my options

Choice of one Nifty Fifty:
Zeiss Planar T* 50mm f/1.4 ZE
Canon EF 50MM F/1.4
Sigma 50mm F1.4 EX DG HSM

or

Choice of one FishEye:
Canon EF 15 mm F/2.8 L Lens
Canon EF 8-15mm f/4L Fisheye
Rokinon 8mm T3.8 Cine Fisheye


Having listed the lenses above, here are my questions for selecting my next lens.

1. Why I need to prefer a nifty fifty over fisheye and which one of the listed 50mm is best for full frame and video shoot or all purpose (photo/video). The difference in AF or MF or noise and focus issues etc.

2. On the fisheye segment cost is the major factor as fisheye lens is not going to be everyday lens but rarest rare case hence looking for bit economical. Obviously Rokinon is on the top when only looking at cost, but quality of rokinon ? I heard that the Canon 15mm prime is for crop sensor but some forums people reported using them with full frame so any inputs ? The 8-15mm is L lens and also costlier, for now i'm thinking that is the distance dream to be precise.

3. My 24-105 IS f/4 is already got the 50mm range but DOF could be a reason for me looking at 50mm 1.4. What other reasons I need to think and is it really required? Also note my 17-40mm is just 2mm over the 15mm lens unless the 8mm focal length is in question, Do I really need either one of these choices ?

Looking forward to know your feedback on this lens. I needed a 70-200 for my D7K and this seems the best option. Nikon 70-200 VR II is way too much above the budget.

Something about South Korea Camera market:

Many people consider that B&H Photo and Video in Manhattan is the photography Mecca. But, I would say it is South Korea which is Photography Mecca. Almost, all equipments, lenses we get in South Korea average 10 - 25% cheaper than US price. There is no comparison with Indian price, which is always way higher. But here you cannot go shop (Mostly in Yongsan Area) and get the great deal. Idea is to purchase online here and get the best rate.

For example: Canon 650D Camera+18-55 IS II Kit lens available in South Korea for $630 but in India it is around $1000. Sigma 70-200 F2.8 being sold in US for $900 and in India it is $1200. I am getting here for $650. :thumbs up

You will get price in KRW and simply convert it into USD or INR. At present 1050 KRW = 1 USD.

So I have a VERY stupid lazybones question.

I have finally gotten around to processing my Spain 2012 photos and I have realized (yet again!!) that i HATE pp, but that this damned 500D needs PP for the photos to look clean and punchy (or maybe i have bad shooting skills and higher standards).

Either ways, with a 400mm purchase looming, I'm thinking of getting myself a second body. Now I am even willing to wait a while (say an year) and just buy a good body - this can even mean a 7D successor or suchlike, but I basically dont mind the DSLR heft, I just want something that takes pretty damn neat (almost Nikon like) punchy images out of the box!

What canon body would that be?

Why don't you just crank up the sharpness and saturation and contrast in the in camera settings and try again

Any suggestion for an economical MACRO lens for Nikon D5200? I am not aware much about Tamron/Sigma lenses, with respect to their availability/service/price.

I have an old Canon SLR camera (Film one not Digital). I am in south Bangalore and need to get the same serviced. Any pointers to who can service the camera and put it back in shape?
