Yup, it is available , also on Shatabdi Express, even on Chair Cars. Life saver when you have 4-5 hours to kill and your gadget has powered down!

re: Free WiFi on the Rajdhani Express UPDATE: Project shelved

Nice feedback on this new initiative. I did read about this a few days ago, but this feedback helps.

I think as long as the speed is greater than the dial up modems we used to have, it is ok for passing time during long journeys.

As regards laptop charging points, I did get to use one in Godavari Express from Hyderabad to Vizag. But somehow, there was something amiss and the mouse cursor was not quite responsive to my movements over the scroll pad. Even others had the same problem, though the laptop was indeed charging. I guess it was an issue with the voltage.

Not happening.

Quote:
The railways has "dropped" a project to provide internet connection in trains because it was not cost effective, the government informed Parliament on Wednesday.

In a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said as a pilot project, Wi-Fi based internet facility was provided in the Howrah Rajdhani Express train through satellite communication technology.

"This technology was capital intensive with recurring costs in the form of bandwidth charges and thus, was not cost effective. Also, the internet bandwidth availability to passengers was inadequate.

What kind of speeds/ latency?

If they use their SPARE Rail Fiber capacity that could be something interesting.

With Jio coming in and data prices falling to the levels they have, good decision. No point in wasting money.
