The Hoverboard is finally here!

Hi guys,

Some of you might have seen the Back to the Future series movie featuring the Delorean time machine which can fly (in part 2) and may also remember the hoverboard which was used by Marty Mcfly (Michael J Fox).Well it seems by 2015 the hoverboard might be a possibililty. Here are a few links to same.I really don't know if this is a scam but i think it's worth checking out. Who knows a few years from now we could all be driving Hover cars.

Re: The Hoverboard is finally here!

The way i see it, the whole "hoverboard" angle is just a way to make this technology "cool" and get the attention + kickstarter funding online.

Unlikely this will ever be a practically usable hover-board for a few reasons:
1) It will ONLY hover on a metallic non-magnetic surface (eg. Aluminum sheet)
2) It probably makes a painful high-pitched buzzing noise when operating
3) A lot of heat generated
4) Heavy
5) Battery life (?)

Where this technology will probably be useful is in other larger applications. This might be a good stepping stone to get there.

Here's a much better video that explains the principle this works on, except its upside down in this video:

Re: The Hoverboard is finally here!

Ironic, because just a few months back, skateboard legend Tony Hawk pulled a hoverboard PRANK:

A few days back, he rode the Hendo board:

I can't find the video i originally saw of this (it had another fellow clowning around too) but I felt like they added sound-effects to make it sound like a fan-powered hover-board, rather than the high-pitched whining i was expecting.

Has fiction finally become a FACT?!

Courtesy, Lexus Worldwide:

Quote:
The Lexus Hoverboard is the fourth project of the brand’s Amazing in Motion campaign and has been designed in collaboration with experts in super-conductive technology.

Described as “most advanced Hoverboard the world has seen,” Lexus’ contraption uses magnetic levitation with liquid nitrogen-cooled superconductors and permanent magnets to obtain a frictionless movement “of a kind that had been thought impossible.”

The Hoverboard prototype is being tested in Barcelona in the coming weeks prior to the launch of the Amazing in Motion campaign this summer, when Lexus will showcase its capabilities.
