WhatsApp desktop version now available

WhatsApp has introduced a desktop client that will mirror conversations and messages from the cellphone.

The desktop version currently support Windows, Blackberry, Android & Nokia S60 devices and works only with Google Chrome. The current version do not support iOS devices.

WhatsApp Web

WhatApp has launched a desktop client service called WhatsApp Web. WhatsApp Web can be used by scanning a QR code with your phone to log in. WhatsApp Web mirrors the conversations and messages from your mobile device so your messages will still live on your phone.
There are several limitations with WhatsApp Web. The biggest limitation is that iOS devices are not supported. WhatsApp Web is accessible through Android, Windows Phone, BlackBerry or Nokia S60 devices. You will need to have the latest version of WhatsApp installed on your phone and you have to run WhatsApp Web from the Google GOOGL +2.41% Chrome web browser. WhatsApp plans to launch WhatsApp Web for iOS users, but that timeframe is unknown. The reason why WhatsApp Web is not available for iOS now is due to “Apple AAPL +1.63% platform limitations.”

Re: WhatsApp desktop version now available

What I like is, they have made all APIs public. Just need to pay and buy the kit. This will be very useful for businesses. Have to wait and see where it goes from here

I can use WhatsApp on my tab now. The tab with no SIM

Haha, love it! Updated my WhatsApp, visited web.whatsapp.com, took 10 seconds to scan and voila. The procedure was as simple as is expected of WhatsApp.

The world prefers to message via WhatsApp....receive so many messages everyday. As someone who h-a-t-e-s typing frequently on the smartphone, this feature is just built for guys like me. I'm on my desk pretty much the entire day and can stick to my faster + convenient + bigger desktop keyboard.

Also, it's a couple of steps less to check & respond to a WhatsApp message as I don't have to pick up my phone, unlock it etc.

I think apple is to blame for that. Knowing their snotty nature they won't budge on making this work as it conflicts with the imessage app on Mac OS. The only time I use iMessage is when I am on my Mac as I prefer typing from my computer. If I can send Whatsapp messages from my computer I will stop using iMessage. I guess this is apples biggest fear.

Re: WhatsApp desktop version now available

Useful for people who are stuck to their desk most of the day.
Like GTO said, no pain of unlocking the phone and checking messages and replying.

Something link GTalk, now Hangouts on the phones.
Selective mute the phone and the phone need not be touched apart for calls .

Its also a good way to avoid the mobile networks when you can. For people who use PC or some kind, its a blessing.

Moto X battery life improved by 50%!!! Whatsapp was the sole battery hogger on my phone. Since last 2 days I am easily crossing 1 day of usage.

Your phone still needs to be connected to a data connection wi-fi or data.

Re: WhatsApp desktop version now available

Totally waste of time for FB to come out with such web app. I dont understand what sense it makes to use this app apart from the fact that you typing on bigger keyboard.

Telegram: App similar to Whatsapp is far with desktop client and syncs seamlessly and no your phone doesnt have to be connected. New kid on the block, yet very matured I must say.

Re: WhatsApp desktop version now available

And no one said it is not available on any other browser except for Chrome. When can one expect it for other browsers?

My wife uses Chrome, so I cannot use it :P

Re: WhatsApp desktop version now available

I still don't get it. Why this massive kolaveri (chrome only/no ios/need to keep phone data on) - why dont they just create a desktop version like telgram that ... just works?!

Re: WhatsApp desktop version now available

I tried and I really liked it. Whats best is that the messages are always in sync between the mobile and PC. You can send/ receive message from either device and both are always updated.

Re: WhatsApp desktop version now available

It works only in chrome browser. Go to the link web.whatsapp.com from the desktop ( or laptop ).

In mobile, please do update to the latest version of whatsapp. From Android ( it won't support in iDevices ), open whatsapp --> Menu --> whatsappweb and it will scan the QR code in the above link and you're logged in from PC.
