Hey guys..am stuck with these 2 cell phones..which one should I buy?
I am getting Nokia N80 for around Rs25,000 and P990i for around Rs29,000 (prices are with official bill and warranty)..
Both have almost similar features..please guide me on a selection !
Also, could anyone tell me whether the Radio with RDA feature in the Sony P990i is same as Visual Radio feature of the N80?..or is it something different?
I have more than 400 contacts on my current Nokia 6630,and if I buy the Sony P990i,will I be able to transfer all the contacts/details to the Sony directly?..or will everything have to be fed in the Sony Contacts book manually?
P.S. - if anyone knows a better price place in Mumbai for these 2 cell phone models, please do PM me the contact details of the shop and/or person..I am interested only in official B & W pproducts..not the grey market ones. Thanks,
Cheers,
-sr

U can always copy the contacts to the sim card and then to the new phone memory. Ull have to repeat the process depending on the sim card memory.

srasania,
I think you should have to buy Nokia N80, you can easily get applications to customize the phone.
if u buy sony u cannot transfer contacts with sim card if u have more than one number per contact, but with bluetooth you can transfer one by one.

Which is a better phone?
Sony Ericsson P990i for sure.
Given a choice, which one will you buy?
The Nokia! Ofcourse.
I hope that explains it! :D
hey guys! happy diwali. for detailed information on mobile phones see the following forum.
www.mobile-review.com/forum2 take care and drive safe.
Except for the transfer of contacts issue, my vote goes for the SE P990i.
Here's what you can do to decide. Flip a coin. Decide that heads=SE and Tails=Nokia. When you've flipped the coin and it is in the air, you'll be hoping it will come up heads or tails. Whatever you wanted it to be (heads/tails), buy that. (And don't look at the coin after it hits the ground).
i feel the nokia 80 is a better choice.there are not many reviews of the sony ericsson yet.from what i have read the n80's battery may need replacement as the phone's applications place a heavy stress on the current battery.few users complained of software getting hanged, but after reloading the software once again,it has worked perfectly.
not read any reviews of the p990i,nut i feel nokia is anyday a safer buy than a sony-ericsson.
and please let me know what you bought and how it works-because i am planning on an n80 too!!:)
let me add on...
Even if you purchase N80 you cant directly transfer your contacts....
I used 9500 before, Now I have N80 got to copy one by one...
I love to vote for n80.. go for it it has a real good res camera..
Cheers

a4_attitude, you
can directly copy from 6630 to N80. There is this "Transfer Utility" in the "Tools" folder (of the 6630 and the N80) that will help you do it. Both phones can be paired via bluetooth, and the Transfer utility takes care of the whole job. You have to initiate transfer from the current phone to the new phone. I have done this with my old 6600 to my old 6630, and from the old 6630 to my current N70. All Symbian Series 60/S60 phones have this utility.
Your 9500 is Symbian series 80, while the N80 is Series 60/S60. This must be why you weren't able to copy directly between the phones.
Have you tried
www.zyb.com to copy the contacts between phones? You can sign up for a free account with zyb and upload your contacts for storage with Zyb. I'm not completely sure about this, but I think you can download the contacts to another phone, after you register it under the same username. I know for sure that you can sync two mobiles into the same account. I have all my contacts backed up at zyb. Safe thing to do. There is a sync utility that you can install on you phone so you can sync with the Zyb server over the air (WAP/GPRS/EDGE/3G connectivity required).
Think about getting the N73 as well, its better than the N80 which is kinda old now.
And the N80/N73 and the P990i are very very different. Their purpose is diff as well. So u gotta choose according to the needs
N80 is cool, i wud go for it over the SE though i really like sony phones, have a W700i myself !
Nokia phones are durable too, as in rough handling/falling doesnt affect them as much as other brands
i would go for the N80 definitely over any other phones for that price!!
i love the sony, its got a faster processor, and softwares are good .less hang ups .and both have diff application, nokia is bulkier than the sony.

are you sure about that is not the price for the grey market with regards to the p990i ?? cause salora the official importer distributor has put an mrp of around 37000 .... check for the salora holagram on the box ..
i have been using the p990i for more than a month now . quite happy with it but it does have some software glitches which should be getting fixed with updates from SE .
and contacts can be easily transfered from any phone using bluetooth or infrared . i did so from my reliance nokia phone without any problem .
Copying contacts is not an issue to be considered, you can sync your existing phone with your outlook, and again when u buy a new phone re-sync it again with outlook, you will have all the contacts.
My vote for P990i, for good build quality.
