Hello,
Someone in my family is looking to buy a large LED/Plasma TV. The viewing distance is around 19-20 ft. For such a large distance I recommended upwards of 55" screen but am not sure which one to go for, Plasma or LED?

LED's top out at 55" or so I think. I am not sure we have 60" plasmas here in Bombay.
Can you please suggest some model names so I can go and have a look see. Also an approximate price range would be welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Regards

LG's 60 inch plasma is available here. Not sure about cost, but its approx 1 lakh.

Saw that for demo at Rahul Electronics, Goregaon.

Thanks for this, I was looking up that in compareindia website.

Have a Videocon 32inch Satellite LCD. Comes with a built in set top box. During Diwali, they were giving away a Videocon cell phone with 12 months D2h for free

Aroy and Vasoo - Are you guys referring UPS that we use for desktop computers (sorry for sounding stupid)? Any idea howmuch a half an hour backup UPS will cost? Any good shop in North Bangalore?

Yes. No idea of Bangalore as I am Delhi. Try APC web site, they have a dealer/retailer list. That is what I did when I got a UPS for my system.

Here's my new setup -
Panny X20 42' for 36k from xcite,
Artis Sound bar from bitfang for 8k
WD live plus media player + 1TB WD external disk from Canada

Place: Panasonic Showroom, Koramangala.

Is this a good deal? I havent visited any of the other multibrand dealers. I always feel they are a bit cocky and a pain to deal with once the money is paid. Bad experiences with Adishwars and Pai.

Where is it exactly in Koramangala, Need to check out few models.

Coming from Inner Ring Road, at the Sony World Junction keep going straight at the signal. 200 mtrs from the signal the showroom is on the LHS. You cant miss it.

You might want to check with GruhaVaibhav, Jayanagar. You can speak with Mr. Satish there.

Not a big shop, but they gave me the best offer when I picked up my LCD a few months back, amongst most of the multibrand dealers whom I had checked with. Infact, the best 3 prices I got were from such smaller players.

Few days back, I received a call from Future Bazaar about their offer on LCD. They were offering 42" LG Infinia LCD and giving LG 32" LCD Free with it. The cost of the 42" was around 1 lakh and 32" was 26k (Which is free) is effective cost of this package is 76K. What do you guys think about this deal?

Wow 280 pages of discussion on a very interesting topic.
I had picked up my first LCD (26") Samsung nearly 5 years back. It a HD ready and has served our family well.
I was always looking out for Large Screen Display 40" or above
With Diwali last month they were some very interesting offers going around. On visiting the local Unilet outlet i was amazed on the deals on LG and Samsung. LG had a very nice Plasma 42" HD ready for around 40K. The LG 42 LCD was around 53K or so.
Having a Samsung before and a Samsung Wave mobile we decided to stick Samsung.
I was interested in the 6series for the 100Hz technology but the offer price was above 60K, so i settled for the 5 series LA40C550, with the specail offer of 54K. With this we get Airtel HD DTH and a Samsung 12MP digital camera. (its been a month and i still need to get the camera)

Lets get down to the LCD TV.
The LA40C550 looks great,
1.USB support with HD Divx - able to directly read from Transcend320GB HDD (NTFS format) mp4/avi (download and watch)
2. The inbuilt speaker system is also quite good.
3. nic port for All Share use (not internet ready) (hooked up via NeatGear wifi router) so my Samsung Wave can share video/pics/music via the wifi.
As the WAVE has HD video recording the output is great on this TV.
4. there is a Fibre optic ouput, the sales person said if connected to a HTS and provide Dolby Digital. I did try this and the Sound Source stays at PCM when i use the USB option. In the User guide it mention Digital TV signal so not sure it will work with USB. (if any one has done so please do let me know)

Now is 40" good enough for a 15' room?
Ans: It depends on what is the Source you are watching.
If you are watching Tatasky/Airtel i would say yes
If you are watching a BD the answer is No.

This just my opinion. If i watch Avatar on BD sitting 15' away its nice but if i sit 6' away its just awesome. The sharpness and crystal clear quality at the distance just blows you away.
This is the real use of a LCD.
Plus hooked up to a HT you cant ask form more. Well maybe ;)

Will try and post some pics later.

No it has no wall mount but comes with an adjustable stand. Please download the PDF brochure. http://www.lg.com/in/download/manual...ner-Manual.pdf
to get details of what all is there.

An upgraded version is M237WAP, which is 18K.

Thanks for info, but I am more inclined towards Samsung now.
I'll be keeping this LCD along my existing 22" samsung monitor

Samsung LA22C480H1
The sound output in this LCD is superb also the picture quality is much crisp than other 22" models when using same settings.

any more suggestions

The only reason for recommending LG is that LG is full HD 1920x1080 while Samsung is only 1366x768

Thanks Aroy, will check the display soon, I was impressed with Samsung Picture quality thats what was making me go for it.

I might visit LG store and check out the one you mentioned and then take the final decision.

I bought 6 Series LA40C630 for 54.5K on this Diwali from Samsung Plaza with Free Airtel HD Box

Last week I updated my Firmware to 010013 from 010007. WOW! the quality had even improved further. More formats are supported from USB pendrive/hdd (Still MOV not supported)

Cheers!
