@ hiren959
I believe the format should be .mkv and the Samsung handles them well. Most formats are supported by Samsung. Have a try.

I own Samsung LED and it plays BRDs downloaded from internet w/o any issues, mine is a series 5 LED.

Guys, Need help. I have a bravia 40inches model 300A. It is about 3.5 years old. Since Saturday I am getting a 6inch black bar in the screen. Today the Sony engineer visited and said the panel has gone kaput. Replacement cost is 19K. Is this cost right? . Please advise.

I just bought a Sony Bravia 32 cms. The 2011 models can play all the formats via USB. I tried most of them, and they worked.

Yes. However do get an estimate from local repair shops as well. Grey market Samsung panels are cheaper (Sony just re-brands Samsung panels).

Cost my be right, but is it worth it? As suggested find the price of Samsung panel, but I do not think it will be much less. Go for a new TV and sell this one to a repair man (he will cannibalise it for components).

Yes, the plan is to sell this one off under exchange and buy a new one. Spending 20K for repair just doesn't feel right.

What are the best prices going around for Samsung Series 5 in 40inch?

What other VFM LCD tvs are there in the market? Would prefer popular international brands over Indian ones.

Thanks myavu ! Are these the manufacturers suggested low price or lowest possible? Sony and Samsung set a threshold price below which stores are not allowed to sell.
I got the Samsung series 7 in 40inch few months ago for 78k but the dealer gave me a bill of 88k as he said Samsung can't know he has sold it below their suggested price.

Would you have pricing for LG 42inch LCDs too? I believe they do no make 40inch.
Panasonic 40inch pricing would also do.

Thanks dre@ms, harry10 and anilisanil for giving the information about movies played through external HDD.

These are the price quoted by my dealer. I had purchased 2 Samsung LCDs, a 40" 6 series last November and 32" 6 series two weeks back. LA40C630 cost me 54500/- and LA32C630 cost me 34500/- .

No idea on LG and Panasonic.

Cheers!

Did you try changing input type to TV RF mode, AVI, component and different HDMI source other than current STB? Because I can see some letters of movie name along with channel logo the black strip. That means something else too. Just verify its not problem with STB. because it mixes moving frame with some internal menu letters(obviously no logo and letters which are now visible).

Yes I tried with all the sources and it's the same problem with them too.
