MIT's AlterEgo headset can read & respond to your thoughts

AlterEgo is a new headset developed by MIT. You strap it to your face. You talk to it. It talks to you. But no words are said. You say things in your head, and it reads the signals your brain sends to your mouth and jaw, and answers the question for you. According to MIT, you may soon be able to control your TV with your mind. Arnav Kapur, the graduate student who lead AlterEgo's development, describes it as an "intelligence-augmentation device."

I checked and found this article on the same, also it was sent to my mail from a person who is a physicist in Canada, so I wonder if it’s a April Fool prank.

It is featured in MIT's media lab home page. So does not look like a prank.

Well, it being MIT is the very reason I thought it might be a prank. MIT students are notorious for pranks, the more bizarre the better. MIT pranks are usually very elaborate, meticulously planned and executed.

If this thing is for real, then colour me impressed and scared.

Cheers
