The Paper Phone: Google’s digital well-being initiative

Google has come up with an innovate new idea, sparked from concerns over the ever increasing addiction to smartphones- The Paper Phone. There is no device as such and neither is it a phone. It is literally just a piece of paper. But how it works is, you have to download the paper phone app(only available on Android) and grant permissions for the app to access your daily events, such as calendar, notes, etc. and all the events will be printed on the piece of paper and the app will instruct you to fold the paper in a certain way to make it seem like a phone. This enables you to have a track of your day with important events, notes, recipes, mini games, puzzles, quotes etc which are present on the piece of paper, without distractions such as YouTube or Instagram which tend to waste our time. The only caveat to the whole idea is that it defeats the purpose of having a phone in the first place, that is to call and text. However if your phone can be stowed away while you are at work or college and you promise yourself to use it only for emergencies, the paper phone can slowly help you reduced the dependency on your phone. A good initiative by Google indeed!
