Re: Making an Android Smartphone truly accessible for a senior citizen Thank Blackwasp for posting this with such nice formatting - my mother is the pre-smartphone generation that isn't really curious either about learning to do it well.
Many of us do not understand how forgiving feature phones are by their inherent simplicity / button interface, esp for senior citizens with neuropathy like my mother.
So the idea is to SLOW down the device, offer LESS - ease her path into the smartphone and remove any traps in her basic activities such as youtube ads - no chance of her clicking on something adverse and ending up on those scammy pages you get a gazillion misleading options
At the same time, we did not enable payTM or UPI on the phone because she does not step out independently to shop - so there's no chance of her falling prey to a phishing scam.
The other thing we taught her was to hang up pronto on any telecallers by simply saying - call my son whose my nominee. If you don't have that info, you get lost - if you are genuine, you will call him! |
