If you have a Solar Water heater, this could be very useful. I am using it this way. You can imagine the amount of electricity saved.

It can be solar or electric or gas or anything else. The point of my question is to indicate that a WM having a hot water inlet doesn't mean it has a heater. It just means you can connect the inlet to a hot water supply.

I also have a solar water heater, and my LG washing machine has cold-only inlet. Very annoying!

You can go ahead and connect the solar heater to cold-only inlet. Also, if you need to swap between cold/hot(solar) wash, you can install a valve before the inlet to switch between them.

Manual intervention:Shockked: The whole idea of automatic wash is lost.

The hot water is normally used in the wash cycles and not for the rinse cycles, so a constant hot water in the WM will waste precious hot water (unless you have an unlimited supply of free hot water - resident hot sping?):D

With a 250Ltr solar heater for two people, yes, our hot water supply is as good as unlimited. A machine wash certainly wouldn't empty it.

(except that our Venus solar heater has suffered corrosion problems and is leaking, and I suspect that the insulation has become soaked and defective --- but all this is another story!)

Yes, the rinse should be cold, and, on a good day, the water from the solar heater would probably be far too hot.

This will allow TEG to enjoy "Hygienic rinse or Rinse Plus" a feature available in select washing machines.

TEG, I believe you should try it out only if to see whether the increase in wash water temperature actually gives a cleaner/better wash.

Unless you can regulate the hot-cold mix, I think hot water direct from the solar heater will ruin your clothes within one or two wash cycles.

Depends on the clothes. Cotton whites could take it, coloureds maybe, synthetics and delicates no. Silk or wool might not even survive one wash.

As the water comes from a roof tank which is in the sun, I doubt if even the "cold" is ever much below 30C.

Guys,
I am in the process of setting up my place in Pune ( giving up my bachelor's privileges on 29th this month ).
Looking out for home appliances to buy.

1. Washing machine.

Did my search here on team-bhp + some other sites around.

Brands : no personal preference as such, just focused on reliable product with good service reputation. still - LG, Godrej, Samsung - in that order.
Budget : 15K (+2K if it gives significant value addition)
Looking for : 6.X Kgs capacity, top load, does-the-job kind machine

My picks:
IFB AW60-205T @16K
+ IFB brand
+ has almost all functions that will serve us well
Godrej Gkitz Eon 650 PF @ 19K
+ Hot water in ( not sure how frequently this might be used - comments? )
+ some DAC+ tech
+ child lock / additional 3 wash types ( not really my preferences )
( not sure if this's worth the extra 4K)
Godrej GWF 650 FC@ 17K
+ seems like a basic workhorse
+ a friend has it ( says bought it at 15K), and says it is good enough.
Samsung WA82 BSLEC @15K
+ perfectly fits in price point
- no reviews.

Please note that - the prices are just taken off the net.
I am assuming there will be at least 1-2K price difference while buying from a dealer ( I mean - discounts )

Please help me with feedback on listed machines or similar priced machines.

2. Refrigerator

Brands : LG, Godrej, Samsung - in that order.
Budget : 15K~17K ( not sure if I would get something with my requirements closer to 15K
Looking for : minimum~200ltr capacity, double door (since there is going to be fish/meat storage too.)
* we will be using it among 2-3 people (max) So - not sure if we need 200L+ capacity - But, I guess nothing will be available in double door option with <200L capacity.

3. Gas Burner

No IDEA about this yet! But still -

Budget : 3~5K
Looking for : 2+1 burner layout should be fine, should be a SAFE & reliable brand.

Planning to buy this week.

Help, really needed! :p
Thanks!

Ace.

Washing machine- I have two, a top load 8kg whirlpool with all bells and whistles, but the service guy visited me every month for the 48 month warranty period! Also the detergent doesn't mix if you have bore water! So for the white streaks on my black pants, I got a 5kg Samsung front load! Wonderful machine, ~3 years now, no issues!

Fridge - got two samsungs 300-320 lots each. Both peachy, one is 14+ years old and another 7+.

Gas burner- got butterfly, about 8-10 years old and auto start still works!

IMHO, Amway's SA8 does the job for this! Our 6.5 kg Whirlpool semi (5 years old now) does a good enough job and keeps the missus' hands baby soft. To others - try it sometime!

She hasn't felt the need to upgrade the WM even once, inspite of now runs every 2nd day due to potty training our dragon!:uncontrol

/full disclosure - we used these products because of a relative in the family (why else?!!) - but SA8 is something my wife carries along even on intl trips, because she appreciates the quality so much, even as we've reduced on the other product usage.

I too started buying liquid soap, but it's pretty expensive compared to powder. I also felt that the top loader was not cleaning as well as a front loader due to its weird hand wash rotation when compared to the high speed spins of a front loader. It kept failing frequently too in terms of the sensors to stop water intake, socks getting stuck in outlet hose etc, got fed up with it. The company too made me spend on a water softener device and a stand claiming it will solve the white streak problem but that didn't help. So went back to the front loader and haven't regretted till date!

What was the cost of the water softener device and how much was the yearly cost? Also did it soften the water well?

It cost me 1400 and was all crap! It's just a glorified filter attached to inlet of the machine. Scam. I was desperate for the streaky situation to be resolved but had a feeling it wouldn't work.
