I am surprised that a Washing Machine you bought only last year does not have a Pause function.

It is because Samsung have two generations of washing machines being sold parallelly, the older ones locally manufactured and the new Bespoke AI range imported from Vietnam (quite recently it began production in Chennai).

Even with LG the older range being sold (identified by the handle-type door) does not have the 'Add Item' feature. That too is not extremely straightforward like a top loader, as the door does not unlock if you simply pause it. You need to use a separate Add Item button that initiates a request and takes a few seconds to unlock and refuses if the water is too hot etc.

Yes, my 2016 Bosch does all that. Adding items is not guaranteed, it can refuse if the level is too high.

The Bespoke (AI or non-AI) range from Samsung are not your average joe washing machines or appliances. They are high end units that cost a fair bit more than the non-bespoke ones. The point I was trying to drive was that the function not being available for a machine thats just a year old!

LG's logic makes sense. You don't want to burn yourself if the water is hot or worse, there is too much water in the drum causing a spill. Probably less of an issue in our market.

I use an Electrolux front load from 7 years ago. While it does not have an Add Item feature. The Start/Stop Button unlocks the door to add more clothes. However, this can only be done before a main wash cycle has started. Basically, while its still filling the drum, which is fine. Not once the wash cycle has made progress.

Some brands include a secondary portal to open the front door, specifically made to add extra clothes. From a maintenance perspective, I find this to be an overhead or another line item like replacing two sets of rubber gaskets over time. Due to wear and tear.

Aye, for a while the top line Samsungs had that little hatch on the main front door. I nearly considered getting one but figured just the same as you, if I was going to pause the cycle to pop an errant sock in, why not just open the main door rather than a tacked on catflap type thing.

Don't see it advertised as much anymore or even offered on more current models.

I took a quick look at the web page. Whilst It's very likely that some of the technology has indeed been updated, it looks to me as if it's mostly the marketing that has been stream-lined and mainlined with the AI labels. I think a previous poster mentioned that washing machines have been estimating loads, etc, for a long time.

Fuzzy Logic used to be the buzz words; now it's Artificial Intelligence.

But if the machines are getting better, that's good. Never mind the marketing departments!

I really think most of these are just weights and biases being stored in a lookup table in memory and are not actually retraining themselves on the fly to deliver a more personal experience.

I for one would be happy if, for example, the machine could learn supply voltage and inlet water pressure to give me more accurate, personalised estimates of cycle time in the long run rather than an approximation based on lab conditions. Washing Machine Learning, I would call it.

Hi guys, I'm looking to buy a 8 kg top load washing machine for my parents.
First preference is Whirlpool as we have good experience with their appliances so far. But they are only offering a 5-year warranty on the motor, while the rest of the industry offers a good 10-year warranty.
If not the whirlpool, I'm willing to go with the Haier as recommended by my friend, who has been using one for the past 6 years with no issues.

Do companies actually change motors under warranty for such a long period of time?

Also, can someone please suggest the Dry and Wet vacuum cleaner around 12k that will be used occasionally by my mother. Almost every brand (Karcher, Inalsa, Philips, Agaro.. etc) on e-commerce platforms had mixed reviews, so I couldn't finalize on any brand.

would love to know your suggestions.

Whirlpool washing machines are quite reliable, easy to service and repair when the need arises with great availability of spares, Coming to motor warranty, they usually don't go faulty and therefore the chances of replacement are slim, yes, companies do and I have personal experience of the same with a Bosch washing machine of ours where the motor was replaced free of cost after 7 years. As regards other brands, I would recommend LG as my family and friends have had only good experiences with the brand, Here a couple of Whirlpool and an LG washing machine that suit your needs:

https://www.flipkart.com/whirlpool-8...WLUBtQ0019pDoZ

As regards, Vacuums, Philips is the only brand I have personal experience with and it has been great so far, the one I bought is from Oman, so don't really know the brands and options here, But you could definitely consider the models of Philips available here.

Motor warranty should be the least of your worries. 7 out of 10 times, when you have a problem with an automatic washing machine, it is the electronics that is the culprit.

My suspicion is that they know this very well when offering long warranties on the motors. I'd say that the chances are that the motor will still be running after the whole cabinet has rusted away, let alone the electronics!

I’m in the market for a new refrigerator and I really liked a Bosch 368L model (https://cmmarena.com/products/bosch-...ly-steel-368-l) that I saw at an offline store. I’m not sure if this brand is reliable in Indian heat especially because my kitchen is non-AC and it gets quite hot in my apartment in summers.

Has anyone here bought Bosch refrigerators and has any thoughts? I have a narrow space for a fridge (about 27.5 inches) and this model’s doors sit almost flush with the sides when the door is open. That means it’ll fit in my space with an air gap either side. It’s 368L in that width, so the extra space is a big draw too.

I’m planning to buy it with extended warranty for five years but I’d still appreciate any reviews from members of this forum.

EDIT: Has anyone used a washer-dryer combo unit? I’m also buying a new washing machine and it’s a bit confusing. My thinking has been to get the best Bosch machine I can afford and forget about the rest. However they also have a combo unit which is useful during the monsoon months in Mumbai. Is that reliable or should I just go with a regular washer and ignore these combos?

I only have space for a single unit, so buying a separate dryer is out of the question

I’d suggest a LG or Samsung as they have the best support in India. Condenser combos are good but they do take time for the drying cycle.

We bought LG Washer/Dryer it is 11kg wash and 7 kg Dry.

I am extremely satisfied with it. As we get a lot of sunshine, the dryer is seldom used, but when needed it is god sent. The dryer has a lot of settings - 1/2h, 1H, 2H, full dry and dry for ironing. You use the setting that suits your needs. A word of caution, full dry as its name suggest will dry the clothes fully, but there will be a lot of creases in cotton fabrics.

One advantage of a larger machine is that you can easily wash blankets, duvets and large curtains, some of these would just not fit in a 7kg machine.

Are there any 1 liter/2KW instant water heaters from decent brands?

I can only see some with 3KW, which at times might trip the load allocated for us.

Please suggest.

No company these days is building products that will last. I have stopped being loyal to brands and usually pick up products of any established brand providing bundled extended warranties or bargain offers.

We own a Whirlpool top load and had its motor and clutch replaced during the 1st three years. It has not remained trouble free and clutch replacement was a nightmare job as the existing assembly had to be hammered down and broken to get the part out. The repair guy shared that this design is common with all top loads of whirlpool and it's pretty hard to replace that part in case it fails. To my surprise 2 of my relatives had the same drive problem in their whirlpool as well. So when the time came to buy a new top load I zeroed down on Panasonic this time and am pretty satisfied with it. Japanese companies will usually have less chances of parts failing due to their manufacturing protocols.

I would say you can go with any good brand that has the maximum warranty. Samsung, LG, Whirlpool, Panasonic, Haier are all good and motor warranty should be the last thing to consider while deciding on any of these brands. I just checked now that my Panasonic has 10 years warranty on motor. :)
