Well According to the manual you should disable the Onboard PCI SATA Controller, if you want to use Non Raid function (see page 49 of manual) by disabling it means it will function as normal IDE drive using SATA Interface, the reason its not detecting during windows installation is that the OS might not have inbuild drivers for SIS Sata SIS 965SL southbridge interface hence its not able to communicate with HDD, you need to boot from that CD create boot disk for winxp installation & press f6 during winxp install & load drivers of that controller from floppy thats the only way it will work.
The option of native SATA Ports are not supported by all motherboard & it varies from Chipset to chipset used in Motherboard, that option does works with Intel D1XX,9XX chipset boards.

so abhibh without wasting any time please make that driver from CD & proceed with installation. the instruction for making driver is there in the manual.

My friend had the same problem with his new HDD,bios us to detect and windows did not.....after alot of fiddling around trying to connect it to different systems ,we found out that the HDD was diffective. So try connecting to some other system and see if it works.

I knew it all the time if you check the 2nd post i was just waiting so that experts can give some good advice on it . I am installing windows at this moment and all working fine . But MS should add a option to copy that Raid file via CD so that ppl dont have to copy the files on floppy (Never bought FDD with this system just took out the FDD from my other system lol)

Thanks all for the help.

I don't think this Motherboard provides 3rd party controllers.

third part drivers comes with HDD, not for Mobo

Windows XP does not have SATA drivers installed. The only way to install it is by using a floppy drive. I don't know why it is designed like that but it is definitely very strange. I use a USB floppy drive for this.

Does Vista also has the same issue. I know for sure that Ubuntu does not have any issue though the old version of Red Hat Linux used to not recognize a SATA disk.
